Kabul, Mohammad Nabi the seasoned Afghanistan cricketer, has overtaken Shakib Al Hasan to become the No.1 ranked all-rounder in the latest ICC Men’s ODI All-Rounder Rankings. This shift at the top marks the end of Shakib’s significant tenure, which lasted 1739 days, the longest uninterrupted period anyone has held the top position in ODI all-rounder rankings. Nabi’s ascent follows a remarkable century against Sri Lanka, combined with his consistent performance, including taking a wicket in the same match, which also helped him advance in the ODI bowlers’ rankings.
According to International Cricket Council, Nabi’s achievements have been particularly noteworthy given his age of 39 years and 1 month, making him the oldest player to lead the ODI All-rounder rankings. This achievement surpasses the record previously held by Tillakaratne Dilshan. In addition, Nabi’s contributions have been pivotal in the recent ODI series against Sri Lanka, highlighting his skill both as a batsman and a bowler.
The rankings update also saw movement in other categories, with South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj maintaining his position atop the Men’s ODI Bowler Rankings. Meanwhile, in the batting rankings, several players made significant strides, including Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka, Pathum Nissanka, and Sadeera Samarawickrama, following their performances against Afghanistan.
In Test cricket, New Zealand’s Kane Williamson extended his lead in the batter rankings, and India’s Jasprit Bumrah continued to dominate the bowler rankings. Kyle Jamieson’s performance against South Africa also earned him recognition, moving up in both the bowling and all-rounder Test rankings.
The T20I format saw Australians Glenn Maxwell, Tim David, and David Warner, alongside West Indies’ Rovman Powell and Johnson Charles, make notable advances in the batting rankings after the conclusion of their series. In the T20I bowling and all-rounder rankings, Australia’s Adam Zampa and Marcus Stoinis saw significant improvements, underlining the dynamic nature of international cricket rankings across formats.
