Senate Attendance Report Reveals Disparities in Participation During 361st Session

Islamabad: A recent report on the 361st session of the Senate reveals significant disparities in attendance among its members. Over the course of eight sittings, held from May 7 to May 21, 2026, only 24 out of 95 senators attended all sessions, while 10 members did not attend any. The data highlights concerns about engagement levels within the legislative body.

According to Free and Fair Election Network: The attendance report further details that the third sitting saw the highest attendance, with 66 senators, accounting for 69 percent of the current membership. In stark contrast, the eighth sitting recorded the lowest attendance, with only 47 senators, or 49 percent, present. Overall, 71 senators missed at least one sitting during the session.

The report also sheds light on attendance among cabinet members. One state minister participated in six sittings, whereas three federal ministers were absent for the entirety of the session. The leader of the house was present for just one sitting, in comparison to the leader of the opposition, who attended seven. These figures underscore notable differences in participation levels among key government figures and opposition leaders.
