Khanewal Voter Registration Surpasses National Average by 4%

Khanewal: The voter registration rate in Khanewal has reached 58% of its projected 2025 population, exceeding the national average of 54% by four percentage points. This data highlights the district's relatively high level of civic engagement compared to other regions in Pakistan.

According to the Free and Fair Election Network, the figures are derived from district-wise electoral roll statistics released by the Election Commission of Pakistan on December 30, 2025. These figures are juxtaposed with population projections based on the 2023 Digital Census. Khanewal's population for 2025 is estimated at 3,526,801, considering an annual growth rate of 2.39% from its 2023 census base of 3,364,077. The voter registration rate was calculated by dividing the number of registered voters by this population estimate.

Khanewal currently has 2.0 million registered voters, comprising 1.1 million males and 952,238 females. The registration rate is 60% among males and 56% among females. Nationally, Khanewal ranks 20th by population size and 32nd by voter registration rate. Within Punjab, it ranks 20th out of 36 districts. The district is represented by four Members of the National Assembly.

The above-average registration rate in Khanewal can be attributed to two rules from Pakistan's 2023 Digital Census. Firstly, household members absent for more than six months were not counted at their home address. Secondly, those living elsewhere were recorded at their current address, not their origin household. Many permanent residents of Khanewal migrate to urban centers like Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Faisalabad for employment, leading to their enumeration at these destinations but remaining registered voters in Khanewal based on their permanent CNIC address. This results in a population denominator smaller than the registered voter count, thus elevating the registration ratio above the national average.

Female voters account for 46.5% of the registered electorate in Khanewal, indicating a moderate gender gap of 7.0%. Despite the district's high overall registration rate, efforts for equitable female registration continue to be significant.
