Chaman’s Voter Registration Lags Behind National Average

Chaman: Voter registration in Chaman is notably lagging, with only 43% of its estimated 2025 population registered, falling 11 percentage points short of the national average of 54%.

According to the Free and Fair Election Network, the data, sourced from district-wise electoral roll statistics released by the Election Commission of Pakistan on December 30, 2025, highlights a significant disparity in voter registration rates. The figures are compared against population estimates from the 2023 Digital Census, which applied a 1.18% annual growth rate to Chaman's base population, resulting in an estimated 2025 population of 477,286.

Chaman, with 206,922 registered voters, comprises 132,353 males and 74,569 females, showing a stark gender gap. Male voter registration is 49% of the estimated male population, while female registration is only 36%, resulting in a 57,784-voter deficit between genders. This gap places Chaman 106th nationally in voter registration rates and 11th out of 34 in Balochistan.

The low registration rate, particularly among women, is attributed to restricted mobility, lower female CNIC penetration, and social constraints. Unlike census effects in larger cities, Chaman's low registration rate reflects genuine non-registration issues. To address this gap, mobile NADRA units and sustained community outreach by the Election Commission of Pakistan are deemed crucial ahead of the next general elections.
