Karachi, Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) commemorated World Environment Day with a significant seminar hosted by its Department of Environmental Sciences. The event, held in the Senate Hall on Wednesday, highlighted urgent environmental challenges and the collective responsibility to address them through research and practical actions.
According to Sindh Madressatul Islam University, the seminar featured a keynote address by Mr. Mujeeb Ur Rehman, President of Cliff Pakistan, who focused on the critical issues of “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience.” His discussion aimed to inspire the students to develop innovative research ideas that could contribute to mitigating these environmental threats.
Dr. Hina Shehnaz, Incharge Chairperson of the Department of Environmental Sciences at SMIU, expressed appreciation for Mr. Rehman’s contribution, noting the impact of his insights on the students and the broader academic community. She emphasized the importance of unity in raising awareness and taking proactive steps toward land restoration and resilience against environmental degradation.
The event also included a warm reception for Mr. Rehman by Dr. Aftab Ahmed Shaikh, Dean of Information Technology, and Dr. Shehnaz. Ms. Ambreen Aziz, a lecturer in the Department of Environmental Sciences, moderated the seminar, which was well-attended by students and faculty members, demonstrating the university’s commitment to environmental education and action.
