Rohit Sharma sets multiple records in T20I cricket, surpassing Dhoni and Babar

New York, Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma achieved significant career milestones during his team’s match against Ireland, setting new records for victories and run-scoring in the men’s T20 internationals. Sharma’s performance in New York propelled India to an eight-wicket victory and marked several personal and international records.

According to International Cricket Council, Rohit Sharma’s innings of 52 not out made him the captain with the most T20I victories for India, surpassing MS Dhoni with 42 wins. This match also saw Sharma reach 1,000 runs in ICC Men’s T20 World Cups, becoming the third player ever to achieve this milestone, following Mahela Jayawardene and Virat Kohli.

Further cementing his legacy, Sharma moved to second place in the all-time run scorers in men’s T20 internationals, accumulating a total of 4,026 runs and surpassing Pakistan’s Babar Azam. He is now only behind his teammate Virat Kohli, who leads with 4,038 runs.

Additionally, Sharma became the first cricketer to hit 600 sixes across all formats of international cricket, with his tally including 84 in Tests, 323 in ODIs, and 193 in T20Is. He reached this landmark ahead of West Indies’ Chris Gayle, who has over 500 sixes.

The match, held at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, was also noteworthy as Sharma had to retire hurt due to a minor arm injury caused by a delivery from Josh Little. Despite this, Sharma downplayed the severity of the injury post-match, describing it as “just a little sore.”
