Karachi, The Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) to take suo moto action concerning the reported sexual assaults on Dr. Aafia Siddiqui at the FMC Carswell prison in the USA. PDP Chairman Altaf Shakoor has expressed grave concern over the repeated abuse allegedly suffered by Siddiqui, urging the Pakistani government to respond more assertively to her plight.
According to Pasban Democratic Party, Siddiqui’s American lawyer, Clive Stafford Smith, recently revealed ongoing abuses within the facility, including a claim that Siddiqui was assaulted by a jail security guard two weeks ago as a form of punishment. Shakoor highlighted that these are not isolated incidents but part of a troubling pattern of abuse that Siddiqui has allegedly endured during her incarceration, including rape by prison guards on at least two occasions.
The chairman criticized the Pakistani government’s lack of response to these serious allegations, accusing the Foreign Office of inaction. He emphasized the national outrage over the incidents and the government’s duty to protect its citizens abroad. Shakoor’s call to Justice Qazi Faez Isa, the Chief Justice of Pakistan, is an urgent plea for judicial intervention to prompt a governmental response to the situation faced by Siddiqui in the United States.
