Lahore, The University of the Punjab took a significant step towards sustainability with the inauguration of a new 400-kilowatt solar system at its Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB) on Saturday, June 1, 2024.
According to University of the Punjab, the ceremony was led by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Khalid Mahmood, with key university and science leaders in attendance.
In his speech, Dr. Khalid Mahmood emphasized the university’s dedication to renewable energy and environmental stewardship. He celebrated the installation as a crucial advancement for the CEMB, praising the administration’s efforts in achieving this green milestone.
Dr. Moazur Rahman, Director of CEMB, explained the technical details of the solar system, highlighting its capacity to meet a significant portion of the center’s energy demands. He also discussed the long-term environmental and economic benefits of integrating such renewable technologies in educational institutions.
The event also saw contributions from notable figures such as Prof Dr. Shahid Baig, Dean of Health Sciences Academy, and Dr. Raja Razi ul Hasnain, Secretary of the Pakistan Science Foundation. Their presence underscored the collaborative effort and support across various sectors for sustainable initiatives within academic settings.
