Karachi, In the lead-up to Eid-ul-Azha, officials from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) have voiced strong objections against the harassment and extortion of traders dealing in sacrificial animals in Karachi’s cattle markets. The party highlighted the significant religious duty of sacrifice in Islam and condemned the corrupt practices obstructing this obligation.
According to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan, Hafiz Ahmad Ali, the Central Deputy Secretary General of JUI, and Rana Mohammad Saber, the Provincial President of the Youth Wing, addressed the issues faced by traders at Sarjani Cattle Colony during a meeting with a delegation of businessmen. They reported that traders are subjected to threats and demands for bribes by individuals claiming to represent government institutions. These claims include illegal fees for animal enclosures and threats of demolition under the pretext of clearing encroachments.
The leaders warned that the growing discontent among traders could lead to significant unrest if not addressed. They urged the authorities to take immediate action against the bribery mafia and allow traders to conduct their business without interference, emphasizing the importance of upholding the religious practices associated with Eid-ul-Azha without hindrance.
