Dow University Extends Heat Wave Relief Camp on Baba e Urdu Road

Karachi, In response to ongoing severe weather conditions, Dow University of Health Sciences has extended the operation of its “Heat Wave Relief Camp” on Baba e Urdu Road. The decision was made by Vice Chancellor Professor Muhammad Saeed Quraishy during an inspection of the camp, originally set for a three-day duration.

According to Dow University of Health Sciences, the extension was prompted by the need to provide continuous support until the Department of Meteorology no longer predicts a heat wave. Vice Chancellor Quraishy reflected on his experiences at Civil Hospital Karachi, where he observed the acute impact of heat waves on the community. This led to the initial establishment of the relief camp, which has been a recurring initiative in recent years.

He also advised citizens to venture out only for essential activities during the heat wave, to carry cold water, maintain body temperature, and use sun protection. Registrar Dr. Ashar Afaque reported that over five thousand small bottles of chilled “Riva” water were distributed to passers-by during the initial three days. The camp, reaching its scheduled end today, will now continue to operate for the duration of the heat wave. The university’s efforts have been met with gratitude from the community, and the staff has been instructed to prioritize assistance to the elderly, women, and children.
