Sindh High Court Upholds Students’ Right to Education in Enrollment Card Case

Karachi, The Sindh High Court (SHC) has ruled in favor of a group of law students, affirming their right to education by allowing the issuance of enrollment cards, which are necessary for them to take upcoming exams. The decision, led by Acting Chief Justice Abdul Mobeen Lakho, highlights education as a fundamental right intrinsic to the right to life, protected under the constitution.

According to Pasban Democratic Party, the case was brought forward by petitioner Fatima Quaid against S M Law College Karachi and officials at Karachi University. Quaid, along with 49 other students, faced barriers to submitting their enrollment forms for reasons not disclosed by the university, potentially preventing them from sitting for exams despite meeting all admission requirements and paying necessary fees.

Justice Lakho’s ruling emphasized that education should not be restricted by generational or class barriers and must be accessible to all as an essential right. The court’s decision ensures that all eligible students who have fulfilled their academic and financial obligations can participate in the examinations.
