Karachi, New Zealand’s cricket selectors are considering a shock recall for veteran opener Colin Munro for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, set to be held in the USA and Caribbean in June. Despite being out of the international scene for over four years, Munro’s strong performance in global domestic leagues has kept him in contention.
According to International Cricket Council, selector Sam Wells acknowledged Munro’s potential for selection due to his impressive track record, particularly in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), a vital consideration given that New Zealand will play in Guyana and Trinidad for the tournament. Munro, aged 37, has been notable in the T20 circuit, recently ranking as the sixth leading run-scorer in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) with Islamabad United, and having a significant record in the CPL.
While Munro declined participation in New Zealand’s T20I series in Pakistan, his strong form has kept him in the selection conversation for the World Cup. The New Zealand team’s top order currently boasts players like Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Finn Allen, and Kane Williamson, but Wells mentioned Munro as a backup, particularly in case of injuries.
Munro, known for his aggressive batting style, has achieved three T20I centuries, boasting an average of 31.34 and a strike rate of 156.44, making him a standout candidate for enhancing the squad’s firepower in the T20 format.
