Faisalabad to Host National Women’s One-Day Cricket Tournament


Lahore, The Pakistan Cricket Board has unveiled the schedule for the National Women’s One-Day Tournament 2023/24, set to ignite competitive spirit among six regional teams in a 50-over format. The tournament is slated to begin on April 17 and culminate on May 11, with the finals staged at Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad.



According to Pakistan Cricket Board, the event will feature teams from Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Peshawar, Quetta, and Rawalpindi. They will compete in a rigorous double round-robin format, ensuring each team engages in at least ten matches. The tournament spans 25 days and promises to deliver 31 action-packed matches, starting at 9:30 am each day.



The champions will be awarded PKR one million, while the runners-up will receive half that amount. Individual accolades include a PKR 50,000 award for the player of the tournament and PKR 20,000 for the player of the match in each game. Additionally, the best performers in batting, bowling, and wicket-keeping categories will each receive PKR 25,000.



Saleem Jaffar, leading the four-member women’s national selection committee, has meticulously assembled the squads for the competing teams, integrating feedback from regional coaches. This selection process was based on players’ performances in recent domestic tournaments and included considerations for those returning from injuries.



Tania Mallick, Head of Women’s Cricket, expressed enthusiasm about the burgeoning talent pool participating in the tournament. She noted the importance of this platform for developing cricketers, especially promising U19 talents, to showcase their skills and gain valuable experience in a competitive environment.



The tournament not only represents a critical phase in the domestic cricket season but also serves as a vital opportunity for players to impress the selection committee ahead of international tours, such as the upcoming England series.
