Islamabad, In a notable collaboration aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, the Green Youth Movement Gym Club’s executive body from the International Islamic University (IIU) met with officials from the British Council, Reach Out to Asia (ROTA), and the Higher Education Commission (HEC). The meeting took place at the council hall of IIU’s new campus on Wednesday, highlighting the club’s achievements and future plans in addressing climate change and environmental issues.
According to International Islamic University Islamabad, the gathering was chaired by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed, Vice President of Research and Enterprise, and Prof. Dr. Irfan Khan, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences. Other key participants included Dr. Summiyya Chughtai, Incharge of the female campus, and focal persons of the initiative, Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Naseer and Dr. Sarah Amir. Gym Captain Kainat Bangash presented a detailed report on the club’s two-year progress, showcasing its focus on agriculture, forestry, and waste management, aligned with HEC guidelines.
The meeting saw commendations from Mr. Abdulla Faraj Al-Abdulla, Executive Director of ROTA, and Mr. George Kerisa Tavola, ROTA Engagement Manager, who acknowledged the club’s efforts and the supportive role of the British Council and ROTA in fostering impactful environmental projects. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed lauded the initiative, emphasizing IIU’s commitment to climate change engagement and the integration of green movements into the university’s strategic plan.
The event also served as an opportunity for the Green Youth Movement Gym members to present souvenirs made from recycled materials to the visiting officials, symbolizing the tangible outcomes of their environmental endeavors.
