Lahore, The Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) has announced the appointment of Professor Walther Schwarzacher as the new Dean of the Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE). Professor Schwarzacher will also serve as a Professor of Physics at the School for a term of five years.

According to Lahore University of Management Sciences, Professor Schwarzacher brings a wealth of experience from his tenure as a Professor of Physics at the University of Bristol since 2005. His research interests include electrochemistry, nanoscale physics, materials physics, and ice nucleation. He has held leadership roles in various academic divisions, including chairing the Electrodeposition Division of the Electrochemical Society and being a member of the Bristol University’s Senate.

His commitment to interdisciplinary research and teaching is reflected in his mentorship of over thirty PhD students and the receipt of the School of Physics Teaching Award three times. At Bristol, he also designed an international mentoring program and served as the Graduate Dean at the School of Physics, where he focused on student welfare and expanding research opportunities.

LUMS extends its congratulations to Professor Schwarzacher and acknowledges the significant contributions of the outgoing Dean, Professor Sabieh Anwar. Professor Anwar’s leadership has been instrumental in building and strengthening the university’s teaching and scholarship.

Professor Schwarzacher’s appointment marks a new chapter for SBASSE, with his international experience and dedication to research and education poised to enhance the school’s academic and research endeavors.
