Islamabad, Senator Taj Haider, the Secretary General of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), issued a stern warning against the postponement of the upcoming General Elections in Pakistan, emphasizing the detrimental effects such a move could have on the nation’s democratic process and its fight against terrorism.
According to Pakistan People’s Party, Senator Haider, in his press statement, expressed concern that those calling for a delay in elections are inadvertently demoralizing the nation and bolstering the morale of terrorist groups. He stressed that democracy and terrorism are incompatible, highlighting the PPP’s efforts in liberating areas of Pakistan from terrorist control during the Musharraf dictatorship. He criticized the subsequent governments, particularly the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, for their policies that he believes allowed terrorist groups to regroup and pose renewed threats to national security.
Senator Haider accused the PTI government of exacerbating the situation by allegedly inviting armed terrorists to establish camps within Pakistan. He argued that the daily sacrifices of Pakistani soldiers are a direct result of these policies. Emphasizing the importance of standing united in the war against terrorism, he warned that fear, frustration, and despondency only aid extremist groups in their attempts to undermine democracy.
The Secretary General of the PPP called for a rejection of any discussions on election postponement, advocating for the upholding of the Constitution and the democratic process. He reminded that the PPP has always been a vanguard against extremism and terrorism, representing the working classes and marginalized sectors of society.
Senator Haider’s statement comes at a critical juncture in Pakistan’s political landscape, as the country grapples with challenges on both the democratic and security fronts.
