UVAS and Chinese Partners Host Training Forum on Livestock Disease Control in Lahore

Lahore, The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), in collaboration with the Livestock & Dairy Development Department Punjab and China Agriculture University, held a daylong training forum on “Livestock Disease Control” at Falettis Hotel. The event, aimed at combating major livestock diseases, was attended by a mix of local and international experts, officials, and students.

According to University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (UVAS), the training forum was presided over by Dr. Abid Mahmood, CEO of the Punjab Agriculture Research Board, and concluded by Secretary Livestock & Dairy Development Department Punjab, Muhammad Masood Anwar. The Chinese Council General, Mr. Zhao Shiren, was the guest of honor. The event focused on sharing knowledge and techniques to enhance dairy and meat product exports to international standards. Dr. Mahmood highlighted the importance of learning new technologies and techniques, and the establishment of disease-free zones in Punjab. Muhammad Masood Anwar emphasized the department’s efforts in meeting international standards for Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) free compartments in Punjab.

The forum’s discussions covered various aspects of livestock disease control, including technological innovations, strategies for controlling diseases like PPR and FMD, and establishing a sustainable veterinary diagnostic network. The goal is to enhance disease control measures, reduce cross-border infection, and promote the global registration of medicines and vaccines. In total, 50 participants were trained during the forum, signaling a significant step in Pakistan and China’s collaborative efforts in the field of veterinary science and livestock management.
