Islamabad, 16 Oct 2023: COMSATS University Islamabad announced today that applications are now open for the University of Tokyo MEXT Scholarship 2024. Sponsored by the Japanese Government, this fully funded scholarship is aimed at international students who wish to pursue their Master’s and PhD studies at Tokyo University, one of Japan’s premier institutions.
The MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) University Recommended Scholarship is extended to international students via Japanese universities upon the recommendation of MEXT. The scholarship allows recipients to embark on their studies starting in October 2024.
One of the unique aspects of this scholarship is the opportunity it offers to students post-completion of their degree programs. Graduates can seek employment in Japan, which boasts numerous job opportunities with notable rewards and benefits. Furthermore, after residing in Japan for five years, scholarship recipients can apply for settlement in the country.
The scholarship duration is two years for Master’s programs, spanning from October 2024 to September 2026, and three years for Doctoral programs, from October 2024 to September 2027.
Benefits for the MEXT (UR) Scholarship recipients include a monthly stipend, the exact amount for which will be decided for 2024. However, for reference, the 2023 stipend was set at 144,000 yen/month for Masters and 145,000 yen/month for Doctoral programs. In addition to this, the scholarship covers round airfare tickets, and both enrollment and tuition fees will be waived.
The fields of study covered by the scholarship include Agricultural and Life Sciences, Arts and Sciences, Economics, Education, Engineering, Frontier Sciences, Humanities and Sociology, Information Science and Technology, Interdisciplinary Information Studies, Law and Politics, Mathematical Sciences, Medicine, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Public Policy and Science.
To be eligible, applicants must have a bachelor’s degree, a minimum CGPA of 2.30, be born on or after April 2, 1989, and demonstrate English language proficiency. The required proficiency can be indicated by a B2 or higher score on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) scale, such as a TOEFL iBT score of 72 or above, or an IELTS score of 5.5 or above.
Interested candidates are advised to complete the online application form and submit necessary documents including field of study and research plan, letter of recommendation, passport-type photo, an official transcript from the last university attended, abstract of graduation thesis, official statement of (expected) graduation from the last university, and a copy of the student’s passport.
