Dubai, 10 Oct 2023:Bangladesh has been sanctioned with a fine equivalent to 5 percent of their match fee due to maintaining a slow over-rate against England in a league match during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup on Tuesday, 10 October 2023. The punishment was instituted by Javagal Srinath from the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees after the team, under Shakib Al Hasan’s captaincy, was determined to be one over short of the target, even after considering time allowances. This comes according to a press release issued by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
As per Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, concerning minimum over-rate offences, players will be fined 5 per cent of their match fees for each over their team does not bowl within the designated time. Shakib Al Hasan, acknowledging guilt in the infraction, accepted the recommended sanction, eliminating the requirement for a formal hearing.
The charge was levied by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Paul Wilson, in conjunction with third umpire Adrian Holdstock and fourth umpire Kumar Dharmasena.
