Pakistan People’s Party Sindh chapter demands from Election Commission of Pakistan to hold general elections within 90 days, and revise its schedule on delimitation of the constituencies

Karachi, August 23, 2023 (PPI-OT): The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Sindh chapter has demanded that the general elections be held within 90 days as required by the Constitution and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), while revising its schedule regarding the delimitation of constituencies. Senator Nisar Ahmad Khuhro, President PPP Sindh, addressed a press conference at Media Cell Bilawal House here on Wednesday. President PPP Karachi Division Saeed Ghani, Senator Yusuf Baloch, Khalil Hout, Sohrab Mari and other party leaders were also present.

On the occasion, a political figure from Lyari, Mohammad Usman Hingoro, announced his joining PPP. Senator Khuhro welcomed Hingoro for joining the party and added that he is one of those political workers who have always lived among the people. Speaking on the issue of the upcoming general elections, Senator Nisar Ahmad Khuhro said that conducting the elections is undoubtedly the responsibility of the ECP, which says that it has to delimit the constituencies in the light of the new digital census results.

He urgred that the ECP should shorten the process instead of allocating a long period of two months for objections and decisions. “If the elections are not held within 90 days, half of the Senate will be vacant, because half of the senators will have completed their terms,” he pointed out.

On the issue of the recent census, Senator Khuhro said that his party has reservations about the digital census, adding that the PPP had also expressed its concerns when the time of census was extended in certain areas. “There would be many remote areas like Thana Bola Khan and Tharparkar, where the census staff would not have been able to reach, but the extension of time for the census was done only for certain urban areas,” he contended.

In response to a question regarding the meeting with Caretaker Prime Minister and Sindh Chief Minister by a PPP delegation led by the PPP Sindh President, he said that important issues were raised during the said meeting, adding that these issues included reports on the freezing of funds earmarked for ongoing development projects in Sindh, the killing of two party workers in Karachi, and neglecting senior beaureacrts from Sindh in recent transfers and postings. “Prime Minister has assured us that the issues raised by the (PPP) delegation will be taken up and sorted out soon,” he added.

Talking about the case of a minor girl, Fatima, who was killed at Ranipur in district Khairpur, and journalist Jan Mohammad Mahar who was killed in Sukkur, Senator Nisar Ahmad Khuhro said that the accused in both the cases are in police custody, and investigations are already on, adding that the PPP demands justice in both cases.
