Khairpur, July 25, 2023 (PPI-OT): The spokesperson of Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur explained about the news that went viral on social media about Higher Education Commission’s post graduate review program and said that Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur has been offering courses in political science, media and communication studies and Pakistan studies for the past three years. The PhD program has not started but Postgraduate Review Program (PGRP) has been mentioned as stopping these programs, while Further Intake Stop (FIS) has also been announced. According to the Higher Education Commission policy 2021, the maximum duration of PhD is eight (08) years. It should be noted that some teachers have retired after completing their service so that another professional can supervise the registered candidates, but the Higher Education Commission has wrongly closed their status.
The spokesperson clarified that in many public sector universities, teachers with MS degrees are supervising MS program candidates but the current PGRP report has stopped these cases which is tantamount to discriminatory policy. It should be noted that Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur applied for No Objection Certificate-NOC in December 2022, in which only six NOCs have been issued by the Higher Education Commission, while five cases are pending by the Higher Education Commission. And as far as the adjournment is concerned, the university is not responsible for it. The spokesperson clarified that a compliance report will be submitted in view of the recent visit of the PGRP team of the Higher Education Commission and it is expected that this report will be submitted to the Higher Education Commission next week. He has further clarified that the future of registered candidates in MS, MPhil and Ph.D.
The Higher Education Commission’s visit to PGRP was a routine official visit. The post graduate program will be reviewed according to the PGRP questions. Remember that the Quality Assurance Agency of the Higher Education Commission visited the university from January 18 to 20, while the report was issued by the Quality Assurance Agency on May 29, 2023, before the University PGRP report was published.
