Federal Minister Shazia Atta Marri says that the double standards of justice are not concerning but reprehensible

Karachi, May 19, 2023 (PPI-OT): It has become abundantly clear that there exists a stark difference in dispensation of justice. It was denied to Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed; however, relief is being granted today to different individuals by the same courts. We are reminded of the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the lack of justice in the case of late Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed, where her killers were ultimately granted relief, Ms. Shazia Marri said in a statement issued today.

Madam spokesperson further stated that, what is disheartening is the contrasting treatment received by those involved in similar cases. We witness the individual responsible for the embezzlement of Rs. 60 billion being welcomed as an honoured guest in the Supreme Court. It is perplexing to comprehend how a person with such allegations against him can be greeted with such honours.

It is a matter of great concern that the court now claims that it is not possible for one person to attend so many cases simultaneously. However, we must remember that Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed, in her pursuit of justice, appeared in courts across Karachi, Islamabad, and Lahore. She tirelessly attended to her duties as a public servant while navigating the challenges of multiple legal proceedings. One cannot help but wonder why a woman was never given the opportunity to tend to her sick mother or fulfill other important responsibilities instead of facing court hearings daily.

The federal minister further stated that we find it deeply troubling that former President Asif Ali Zardari was brought to court in armoured vehicle while today luxury cars are being used to bring the blue eyed to courts. It is alarming to witness the disparity in treatment. Today, arrested individuals are being kept in guest houses instead of jails. The double standard of justice is not only concerning but also reprehensible. The principles of fairness and equality before the law should guide our judicial system.

Sindh Human Rights Department arranges an awareness session in Karachi on International Human Rights Obligations and its Implementation Mechanism at Federal and Provincial Level

Karachi, May 19, 2023 (PPI-OT): The Human Rights Department of the Government of Sindh has reiterated its commitment to fully implement international conventions and to make its zero-tolerance policy against human rights violations more efficient and effective in collaboration with other relevant institutions. Sindh Human Rights Department hosted an awareness session under the banner “Orientation Session on International Human Rights Obligations and its Implementation Mechanism at Federal and Provincial Level” at a local hotel here on Thursday. The awareness session was attended by officers and representatives of revenue, police and law departments as well as bodies working for the protection and rights of vulnerable sections of the society including women and children.

Speaking on the occasion, Special Assistant to Chief Minister Sindh for Human Rights Surendar Valasai said that Sindh province is ahead of other provinces in preventing human rights violations and providing protection and justice to the victims. He pointed out that the fourth biennial GSP+ review of Pakistan was completed at the end of 2022 and the European Commission submitted the report to the European Parliament, adding that the GSP+ scheme is ending this year and the above review report will play an important role in determining the next GSP+ award to Pakistan by the European Union. “Pakistan’s annual income under GSP+ is $1.5 billion to $2 billion,” he added.

Valasai said that the groundwork for GSP+ was done during the government led by former President Asif Ali Zardari. He furthered that Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has always had an unequivocal stand regarding human rights that no political party and democratic government can even imagine expediency over human rights. “The Provincial Human Rights Department is following the vision of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and the policy of the Government of Sindh,” he said. Surendar Valasai urged that only the federal and provincial level mechanism for prevention of human rights violations is not enough, it needs to be taken to the district level. He said that the footprint of the Human Rights Department is now being extended from the divisional level to the district level.

Javed Sibghatullah Mahar, the Secretary, Sindh Human Rights Department, gave a detailed briefing to the participants regarding the scope, performance and future planning of his department. He said that various measures are being taken by his department for immediate redressal of complaints of human rights violations and provision of justice., adding that an automation mechanism is being created through technology, through which all the concerned institutions will come on one page after receiving the complaint of the affected person. “In order to redress the grievances of the victims and deliver justice, there is a need to create an immediate and effective mechanism between the police department and the human rights department,” he urged.

Mahar said that district human rights committees will be formed on behalf of his department and Deputy Commissioners should pay attention to this. During the session, Human Rights Commission Sindh Chairperson Iqbal Detho, DIG Javed Jaskani, former Secretary Sindh Abdul Rahim Soomro, Executive Coordinator of Treaty Implementation Cell of Sindh Human Rights Department Jameel Junejo and Member of Human Rights Commission Sindh Zulfiqar Shah also addressed the event.

Officers and representatives, participating in the session, appreciated the organization of the session by the Human Rights Department and emphasized that such programs are very important for the promotion and protection of human rights.

President PPP-P Asif Ali Zardari and Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari co-chair the hybrid meeting of CEC of the PPP at Bilawal House, Karachi

Karachi, May 19, 2023 (PPI-OT): The meeting passed a resolution condemning the events of May 9. “The PPP strongly condemns the incidents that happened in different cities of the country on May 9, the damage to the martyrs’ memorial in Sargodha, the burning of Jinnah House, the vandalism at FC Fort in Dir, Mardan, breaking the statue of Shaheed Colonel Sher Khan, burning the Swat Motorway Toll Plaza, burning the Rawalpindi Metro Station and the Peshawar Radio Station to ashes, destroying the Chagai Model and Edhi Ambulance in Peshawar, and burning passenger buses in Karachi.

The resolution described the attacks on private, public and military properties and sensitive installations as defying the writ of the state of Pakistan. The resolution further said that PPP leadership suffered political victimisation for decades but following the instructions of leadership, its leaders and workers never took the path of violence. Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was judicially martyred, Mir Shahnawaz Bhutto and Mir Murtaza Bhutto were martyred too, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto was martyred, but PPP raised the slogan of Pakistan Khappay, which is a bright example for the political workers of all parties.

Former President Asif Ali Zardari was imprisoned for over a decade during different regimes including PTI’s government while Ms Faryal Talpur, the Central President of PPP Women’s Wing was arrested in the midnight and transferred from hospital to prison on the eve of Eid, but despite worst political oppression, the PPP never staged a rally against the country and its institutions. The resolution demanded those responsible should be brought to justice and punished, accordingly.
