Lahore, May 08, 2023 (PPI-OT): The National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC) team visited the CUI Wah Campus on February 27, 2023, for the conduct of an accreditation audit of BS(CS) intake batches of Fall 2018, Spring 2019, and Fall 2019 and BS(SE) Fall 2018, Spring 2018 and Spring 2019. The team consisted of Prof. Dr. Qaisar Durrani from Gift University, Gujranwala, Dean, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shahbaz from UET Lahore, and Director Campus, Dr. Shafat Bazaz from Superior University, Lahore.

The Director CUI Wah Campus, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abid, T.I., along with the Chairperson, of the Department of Computer Science, Prof. Dr. Ehsan Ullah Munir, and the Head of the Computer Science Department, Dr. Sheraz Anjum welcomed the guests. The Director Campus presented the Campus report including its achievements and development plans to the visiting team. The HoD presented the departmental progress report.

During the visit, the NCEAC team visited the Campus facilities, computer laboratories, and classrooms and interacted with faculty members, students, and Section Heads. The team examined the academic progress of the department. In the end, the team had a closing session with the Director Campus. The Director Campus presented CUI Wah souvenirs to the team. The visit ended with good remarks and a vote of thanks.

Karachi, May 08, 2023 (PPI-OT): ORIC organized Meetup Seminar for FYP Heads and their committee members along with ORIC officials, on 2nd May 2023. This seminar Director ORIC welcome the guest and Introduce briefly about ORIC office. After that, she shows a valuable presentation to the audience. The presentation enhances the purpose and objectives of upcoming Batches in STIC, Director ORIC discussed the current status of FYP projects and Identification of challenges and issues faced by FYP students and teams. Director ORIC also shared best practices and potential solutions shown in her valuable presentation.

During the meetup, the Director of ORIC chaired a fruitful discussion among the FYP heads and Team Members, focused on assessing the FYP projects. The FYP heads shared potential solutions to address the identified challenges, and the group made decisions on proposed initiatives and strategies. Identification of several common challenges faced by FYP students, including time management, resource allocation, and team dynamics, the proposal of potential solutions, such as creating a mentorship program, enhancing communication channels between FYP teams, and providing additional resources and support for FYP students.

Decision-making on initiating a pilot program for the proposed mentorship program, to be implemented Upcoming Cohort V. Overall, the meetup was a productive and collaborative event, which provided valuable insights and actionable solutions. Director ORIC announced the intake procedure for COHORT-V She also informed FYP heads to nominate 5 projects for each department to send to ORIC office to generate a new Batch for Incubation at STIC office at the earliest. Then ORIC officials will start Cohort V.

Lahore, May 08, 2023 (PPI-OT): BIC-COMSATS University Islamabad in collaboration with RAIN Catalyst, OREGON, USA (a U.S based NGO) executed a US-funded project for “Empowering Pakistani Women Entrepreneurs” on January 27, 2023, at COMSATS University Islamabad Campus. CEO of RAIN Catalyst, Madam Caroline Cummings was the mentor and Judge of this competition. Initially, they gave lectures to participants on how to become a woman entrepreneur and how to pitch their ideas.

COMSATS University Islamabad, Wah Campus encouraged women, students of the Campus, to apply for the subject event. The Department of Mechanical Engineering sent three projects. Out of which one student Kiran Rashid participated and won the competition and Fully Funded Networking visit to the U.S. in August 2023. She was selected by the US-RAIN team. Her project title was “Design and Fabrication of High Energy Ball Mill for the Synthesis of Nanoparticles.”

The main purpose of working on this project is that Pakistan is currently importing nanoparticles for its industries and labs. She wants to make nanoparticles for additive manufacturing such as SLMS 3D Printers. Also, these nanoparticles are used in automobile gear manufacturing, cosmetics, herbs, stain removers, anti-corrosion coating on buildings, dental fillings, high-power rechargeable battery systems, thermoelectric materials for temperature control, wear-resistant coatings for machine parts, ultra-responsive hearing aids, antimicrobial/antibacterial coatings on keyboards and cell phone casings, medicines, etc.

She aims to sell these Nano-particles in the open market. Her customer base includes printing labs, industries, and cosmetics industries, herbs manufacturing industries, doctors, engineers, and labourers. It will open doors of profit for her and for the country.

Rawalpindi, May 08, 2023 (PPI-OT): The Department of Economics, Fatima Jinnah Women University is organizing its Sixth Bi-Annual Workshop on ‘The Philosophy and Techniques for Quantitative Research’ on May 16, 2023. This workshop will orient the participants with advance tools of bibliographic mapping which is essential for not only conceiving the ideas for quality research but also to position their work in contemporary settings. Needless to say that quality of research cannot be promised without giving due emphasis to the ethical considerations, which is another session of the workshop.

With the explosion of artificial intelligence language models, it has become increasingly difficult not only to augment originality in research but also to comply for research ethics vigilantly. In this regard, this workshop provides the guide on conducting research where artificial intelligence can be used in efficient manner without the loss of research integrity. The workshop is especially useful for research students, faculty, staff and practitioners.

Lahore, May 08, 2023 (PPI-OT): A Seminar was arranged on the topic of “Accelerating Your Career: A Roadmap for Early Achievers” by the student’s chapter of American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) at the Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology (ICET), University of the Punjab Lahore on May 04, 2023.

The event was featured by Engineer Rizwan Hanif, an industrial expert with over 18 years of experience in different positions of Technical and management level in various national and international companies. It is pertinent to mention that he is graduate of ICET (2000-2004 session) and gold medallist as well. Dr. Rafi Ullah Khan (Director ICET), along with Dr. Ayyaz Muhammad (Student Advisor AIChE Chapter), warmly welcomed the guest speaker and thanked for his paying back services to ICET.

Engr. Rizwan Hanif shared valuable insights on how to accelerate career growth by developing a career roadmap. He emphasized the importance of setting clear goals and creating a plan of action to achieve them. He also highlighted the importance of continuous learning and development and stressed the need for young professionals to seek mentorship and guidance from experienced individuals in their field by giving various case studies. Overall, the session was informative, and attendees left with a better understanding of how to accelerate their career growth and create a roadmap for their future success.
