UOL Relief yet again generously conducts its seasonal drive to remote areas

Lahore, May 08, 2023 (PPI-OT): UOL Relief, a social project of the University of Lahore (UOL), exerts efforts to uphold the community service endeavours throughout the year. The Relief Trust has been responding to critical situations and providing relief to the underprivileged and needy members of the society. From methodical assessment of the task at hand to organising and then delivering the services, the UOL Relief has always performed duties with an utter sense of responsibility.

During Ramadan (March 23-April 22, 2023) the UOL relief continued its relief services by distributing food packs in the remote areas of Pakistan. The assessment, organisation, and packing of goods were done entirely by volunteers, comprising students, who utilised their free time and breaks between classes to contribute their roles in the humanitarian services of the organisation. The contents of the Ramadan food packs were listed according to the needs and food consumption of a medium-sized family. The packages contained essentials like oil, sugar, flour, tea, rice, pulses, and dates. Particular attention was paid to the dietary habits of the people, which differ according to various regions. UOL Relief conducted evaluations and surveys in remote areas of northern Pakistan and Punjab, namely Gilgit, Chilas, and Skardu in Gilgit-Baltistan; Balakot and Shangla in KPK; and Lahore in Punjab. Community mobilisers, mostly alumni belonging to the aforementioned regions, were engaged for this task.

Moreover, the organisation’s education and health wings work in these areas all year round, which helps in identifying the most vulnerable members of the community, especially orphans, widows, and the handicapped. This time round, the efforts focused on the neglected valleys in the north that were hard to reach and thus had little access to good nutrition and health facilities. A special team of volunteers, trained to trek across the mountainous terrain, carried out the door-to-door distribution. The organisation also provided Eid gifts to needy children and their families to share the joy and happiness of Eid with them.

Such community work not only enables UOL Relief to uphold its philanthropic endeavours but also to achieve its aim of engaging students in similar drives and philanthropic activities in order to instil a sense of responsibility and empathy in them and stir the desire to help others. UOL Relief distributed Ramadan food packs and Eid gifts worth more than five million rupees this year, and it owes its success to generous donors, hardworking and selfless volunteers, and efficient community mobilizers.
