Lahore, February 10, 2023 (PPI-OT):Pakistan Karate Federation is organizing karate league as talent hunt program in all the Provinces and Islamabad. Al-Kabir Punjab Karate League is starting on Sunday 12th February 2023 at Gymnasium hall of Punjab college campus 8 Ferozepur Road Lahore. In Punjab Competition will be held in 3 zones, 6 teams will qualify for next round and 4 teams will qualify for final round.

The opening ceremony of the league will start on Sunday between Lahore, Sahiwal and Gujranwala, competition will start at 3:00 Pm. All Media friends are requested to witness the competition on Sunday 12th February 2023.

UVAS hold stakeholder meeting on GMO’s issues and future strategies 

Lahore, February 10, 2023 (PPI-OT):The Department of Animal Nutrition of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore arranged stakeholder meeting on ‘Genetically Modification Organisms Issues and Future Strategies’ here at City Campus Lahore. UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad and Vice-Chancellor University of Education Lahore (UE) Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha co-chaired the meeting and sought recommendation/suggestions and technical input from stakeholder regarding the import of genetically modified vegetable meals for poultry feed under provision of Pakistan biosafety rule.

Vegetable (soybean/canola/sunflower) meal is one of the essential ingredients for production of poultry feed. The feed manufacturer and commercial importers need to import such meal from different countries of the world and in order to import these genetically modified meals need to require environmental license from the Pakistan Environment Protection Agency under the provision of Pakistan biosafety rule.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad said that UVAS always playing its lead role as a think tank/trouble-shooter to solve livestock, poultry and dairy industries issues. He said Pakistan is a well-populated country and price of quality meat available on very much high rate due to unavailability of soybean now a days and we already facing stunting and malnutrition issues here in Pakistan. He said UVAS provide a best platform to poultry stakeholders/professionals where they can share their issues/constraints and recommendations to address poultry sector issues.

While addressing the audience, Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha urged stakeholders to start social media campaign for creating awareness among general public regarding the adoption of genetically modification organisms techniques for enhancing crops production which is using all over the world and never injurious for human health. He also stressed to constitute a biosafety committee for the assistance of poultry industry to fulfill requirement for attaining license to restart the import of soybean in Pakistan.

All the stakeholders recommended to instantly lifting ban on the import of soybean in Pakistan. They supported the adaptation of GMO`s techniques for the enhancing of crops production. They requested the Government of Pakistan to make farmers friendly policies to boost poultry sector. They recommended to start media campaign to curb misconception associated with GMO’s.

President Pakistan Medical Council Prof Dr Ashraf Nizami was the guest of honour while many stakeholders from public and private sectors across Punjab (Pakistan Poultry Association, Buffalo Research Institute, Agriculture Department), academicians, researchers and officials from Livestock Department participated in meeting.

Turkiye Earthquake: Funeral Prayers in absentia offered in Faisal Masjid 

Islamabad, February 10, 2023 (PPI-OT):The funeral prayers in absentia for the people of Turkiye and Syria who lost their lives in the recent huge earthquake were offered in Faisal Masjid on Friday. Turkish Ambassador Mehmet Pacaci, Diplomats of Islamic countries, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon, President of International Islamic University (IIU) Dr. Hathal Hamoud Al-Otaibi, Vice Presidents of IIU, well-known social figures and a large number of citizens attended the funeral prayers in absentia.

On this occasion, faithful prayed for the eternal peace of Turkish and Syrian Muslims who died in the earthquake, while prayers were also offered for the unity of the Ummah. Mehmet Pacaci, the Ambassador of Turkey, while talking to the media after the funeral prayers said that the we are thankful to President of Pakistan, the Prime Minister, other government officials and the entire Pakistani nation for the solidarity they have shown.

He said that Pakistan’s aid operations in Turkey are exemplary. He said aid supplies were also sent to Turkiye from Pakistan today. He said that the sympathy and cooperation of Islamic countries with Turkey after this natural disaster is commendable. The Turkish ambassador said that Pakistan had started providing aid from the first day of the earthquake.

GCU stages play on harsh reality of life in India-occupied Kashmir

Lahore, February 10, 2023 (PPI-OT):The Kashmir Society of GC University Lahore held a seminar titled “Kashmir and Indian Colonial Strategy,” where they staged a special theatre play that depicted the harsh reality of life in Kashmir under Indian rule and showcased the support of the international community and Pakistan for the Kashmiri people.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi chaired the seminar, which was also addressed by guest speaker Dr. Syed Mujahid Gilani, the grandson of Syed Ali Geelani, and eminent actor Azra Aftab. Dr. Syed Mujahid Gilani spoke about the illegal economic policies implemented by India in Kashmir and the impact they have had on the local population. He endorsed the event’s theme by saying, “India is an occupier in Kashmir, and any actions taken by an occupier will be considered imposed on the people.”

Actor Azra Aftab said that more such dramas should be produced to depict the harsh reality of life in Kashmir. Vice Chancellor Prof. Zaidi condemned the holding of the G20 Summit in Kashmir and appreciated the work of the Kashmir Society in raising awareness about the plight of Kashmiris. Earlier, the President of the GCU Kashmir Society, Ch. Keehan Ijaz, opened the event with a presentation that briefed the attendees about the role of students in raising awareness about the Kashmir issue.

Punjab University Institute of Social and Cultural Studies organizes awareness seminar

Lahore, February 10, 2023 (PPI-OT):Punjab University Institute of Social and Cultural Studies (ISCS) organized a seminar on raising awareness among youth about ‘Trafficking in Persons in Pakistan’ under the Alumni Network Small Grant project. On this occasion, Vice Chancellor University of Poonch, AJK Prof Dr Zakria Zakar, Director ISCS Prof Dr Rubeena Zakar, Executive Director Idea Pakistan / analyst Salaman Abid, Focal Person Punjab, Shahzad Amir, Executive Director SSDO Syed Kausar Abbas, Director PU Centre for Peace and Security Studies Prof Dr Farhan Navid Yousaf, faculty members and students were present.

The speakers highlighted various aspects of the topic and gave awareness to the students. They were on the view that civil society, NGOs, experts, security forces, media and academia should play a constructive role to raise awareness regarding the issue.
