Seminar on impact of Climate Change on Water resources of Pakistan held at FC

Islamabad, January 02, 2023 (PPI-OT):Directorate of Student Affairs, Female Campus (FC) of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) and The Green Youth Movement Club (GYM club) led by Dr. Sarah Amir, along with her students from the Environmental Science Department organized an awareness seminar under the topic of “Impact of climate change on water resources of Pakistan”.

The seminar included known speakers from the International Islamic University, the Ministry of Climate Change, and PCRWR. In his inaugural Address Dr. Ayaz Afsar Vice President of Academics, at IIUI, appreciated the efforts of the GYM club and highlighted the effects of climate change on precipitation patterns in Pakistan. Dr. Hifza Rashid, Director General, PCRWR was one of the two guests to share her knowledge on the said topic.

She emphasized climate change and its effects and how Pakistan is in dire need of policy instruments due to its economy being water intensive. Moreover, she shed light on the importance of individual contributions towards combatting climate change.

Dr. Shaukat Ali, SSO, Ministry of Climate Change applauded the research work of female students from the Department of Environmental Science and repeatedly appreciated their work. Talking on the topic of the impacts of climate change, he discussed Pakistan’s standing on the global risk index and the status of our freshwater resources including glaciers.

“Temperature rise in Pakistan will occur 10 years earlier than the rest of the globe”, an astonishing prediction made by Dr. Shaukat Ali. Dean, Faculty of Sciences, Dr. Muhammad Irfan Khan shared his thoughts on the topic towards the conclusion of the seminar stating that climate change is a non-traditional security threat to Pakistan and negatively impacts water, food, and disaster risk security.

As a token of appreciation shields were presented to the Honourable guests from MoCC Dr. Shaukat Ali and PCRWR Dr. Hifza Rashid, Dean Faculty of Sciences, Dr. Muhammad Irfan Khan, Vice President Academics Dr. Ayaz Afsar and Dr. Sarah Amir for her undeniable efforts to make GYM club, IIUI one of the most active green youth club amongst all universities in the region.

This was followed by certificate distribution to the cabinet members and organizers of the seminar. The seminar ended with cake cutting ceremony to celebrate the first anniversary of the Green Youth Movement Club, IIUI and vote of thanks by Dr. Sumayya Chughtai.

Visiting Faculty Required at Department of English and Applied Linguistics

Peshawar, January 02, 2023 (PPI-OT):Applications are invited from the candidates having the following qualification/experience in the relevant subject for teaching MA and BS courses (Session 2022-23/Spring Semester 2022-23) at the Department of English and Applied Linguistics, University of Peshawar on visiting basis.

Candidates having MS/MPhil degree (1 8 years of education) in the relevant field from HEC recognized Universities/DAIs with no 3rd division in the academic career are eligible to apply on plain paper.

Attested copies of all academic credentials along with CV, CNIC, Domicile, Photograph and Experience Certificate (if any) must reach the office of the Chairman, Department of English and Applied Linguistics on or before Monday, January 09, 2023 via courier or by hand.

Candidates must deposit Rs.500/- (non-refundable) as application processing fee in favour of the Treasurer, University of Peshawar in A/C No. 6290-3 at National Bank University Campus Branch.

Incomplete applications and those received after due date will not be entertained.

Update on Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf 

Karachi, January 02, 2023 (PPI-OT):Left-arm fast bowler Shaheen Afridi will resume his rehabilitation under the national men’s team’s medical staff in Karachi from today. While providing Shaheen top-notch care, this move will allow the medical staff to track his progression and pave way for his smooth return to action.

Meanwhile, the interim selection committee and team management have invited right-arm fast bowler Haris Rauf to be assessed by the team’s medical staff so a decision on his availability for the three One-Day Internationals against New Zealand – to be played next week – can be made.

Faculty Member of IUB Prof. Dr. Shazia Anjum participated in a seminar organized at the University of Okara 

Bahawalpur, January 02, 2023 (PPI-OT):Prof. Dr. Shazia Anjum Dean Faculty of Chemical and Biological Sciences the Islamia University of Bahawalpur participated in a seminar organized at the University of Okara. Prof. Dr. Shazia Anjum emphasized the need for joint research in higher education institutions. She said that the most viable way for higher education institutes is to contribute to social services and develop industrial products for financial independence.

All the participants appreciated the role of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur in being a lead university for Consortium on Climate Change, Sustainability and Conservation. Vice Chancellors from across the country participated in the seminar.

Vice-Chancellor, Okara University, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Wajid appreciated the efforts of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur for providing a platform for joint research. A further action plan will be drawn up to implement this consortium in the future.

Punjab University Undergrad Students Presented Research at International Conferences 

Lahore, January 02, 2023 (PPI-OT):PU undergrad students of electrical engineering have presented their research at the International Workshop on Soft Computing Applications (SOFA’22), held at UAV Romania and the International Conference on Emerging Trends in Electrical, Control, and Telecommunication Engineering, held at the Department of Electrical Engineering (ETECTE’22), The University of Lahore, Dec 2022.

SOFA was sponsored by IEEE Romania section, and IEEE computational intelligent society, while ETECTE was sponsored by IEEE Lahore section, IEEE IAS, IEEE ComSoc, and IEEE PES chapters. Students have completed their research under the supervision of Dr. Umar Farooq.

Arsalan Amjad and Ahmad Ali presented research paper on the Fuzzy Logic Based Control of Dual Output Buck Converter while Areesha Raheem and Hareem Siddique presented research paper on the Deep Learning Based Monitoring of Power Quality Disturbances during SOFA’22.

Umair Butt, Hasin Butt, and Dawood Imtiaz presented poster on the Tracking Control of Boost Power Converter during ETECETE’22. Tuba Sehar and Sarah Aimen presented poster on the Lyapunov Based Sliding Control of Chemotherapy Dosage Adjustment during ETECETE’22. Gulbaz Khan and Ayesha Asif presented poster on the Power Quality Improvement in Grid-Connected Inverters during ETECETE’22.

Arsalan Amjad and Ahmad Ali presented poster on the Design of Higher Order Buck Power Converter during ETECETE’22. Mujahid Hussain, Adeel Naeem, and Muhammad Umer presented poster on the Synchronization Control of Chaotic Systems.

PU senior faculty member, Dr. Umar Farooq was also invited to deliver a keynote speech at ETECETE’22. He presented key findings from his research work on the Robust Control Design of Tele-robotic Systems, which was jointly carried out with Dalhousie University, Canada during the last ten years.

Weeklong “Winter Fiesta” concludes

Lahore, January 02, 2023 (PPI-OT):The Senior Tutor Office of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore arranged weeklong Winter Fiesta at City Campus. Various activities including naat and qiraat, qawali and musical performances, annual mushaira (Beyaade Rais Farogh), debate, food competitions, theatre performance drama and fun fare (winter home coming) featured the weeklong winter fiesta. Students from different societies and departments of UVAS actively participated in these activities etc.
