Donations for Flood Victims 

Lahore, September 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):The English Literary Society (ELS) and Character-Building Society (CBS) teamed up to establish “Donations for Flood Victims”, a week long donation drive from August 30, 2022 to September 6, 2022. Contributions in both cash and in kind will be acknowledged.

On August 29, 2022, the project was introduced to the students in the Institute of English Studies at 11:30 am. The objective of the event was to encourage significant awareness on the plight of flood victims and to generate funds in aid of those who are struggling with mounting destruction and crisis.

The director of IES, Prof. Dr. Amra Raza, along with the faculty members, and Coordinators Miss Maryam Raza (ELS) and Miss Hooria Liaquat (CBS) attended the event. Filza Randhawa, Vice-President of CBS, moderated the event. In addition to that, Fiza Liaqat, the President of ELS, and Mahnoor, delivered thought provoking speeches, emphasizing the need to help our Pakistani brothers and sisters.

Moreover, students from different semesters expressed their feelings in words through poetry, both in English and Urdu. The event was concluded with a collective prayer / Dua e Khair for the flood victims by Hafiz Waqas Asghar from ADP Replica, Semester 5. The donation drive began with a promising result foreseen with a collection of Rs. 12,000 on the very first day. It is expected that through such endeavours, students will learn the value of lending a hand in times of distress.

PU CSAS organized a lecture on 30 August, 2022 

Lahore, September 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):Prof. Dr. Umbreen Javaid, Director, Centre for South Asian Studies, University of the Punjab, Lahore organized a lecture on 30 August, 2022 (Tuesday) at 11:00 a.m. on “75th Independence Anniversary of Pakistan and National Resolve.” Prof. Dr. Rehana Saeed Hashmi, Department of Political Science, University of the Punjab, Lahore was the guest speaker.

The guest speaker started the discussion with the achievements and challenges that the nation of Pakistan underwent since its inception. She brilliantly captured the core issues which the nation of Pakistan is faced with for the last seventy odd years. Explaining these economic, political and social challenges, she raised an important question that why there is political instability in Pakistan? An interactive session was held with the audience to address this key question.

After highlighting the key challenges, she came up with pragmatic solutions of the aforesaid issues. She was of the opinion that in order to have political stability it is imperative to have sustainability rather than unity. She recommended to start with the societal level on the right lines to address these above-mentioned core issues. The session was concluded with an optimistic note that the current generation of Pakistan which is a product of the age of information will lead on to take the fortunes of the country forward in a much better way than the earlier generations of Pakistan.

Faculty members, M.Phil./Ph.D. scholars of the Centre for South Asian Studies, University of the Punjab, Lahore attended the lecture in which research scholars and the students participated actively.

PU CSAS organized a Seminar on 18 August, 2022

Lahore, September 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):Prof. Dr. Umbreen Javaid , Director, Centre for South Asian Studies, University of the Punjab, Lahore organized a Seminar on 18 August, 2022 (Thursday) at 11:00 a.m. on “India – Demise of Intelligentia / Academia in Modi’s India – Diminishing Voices of Sanity.” Mr. Salman Abid, a renowned Journalist, was the guest speaker.

Mr. Salman Abid encompassed the extremist trends in Modi’s India and elaborated on how the voices of dissent against the ruling government by the intelligentsia or academia are curtailed or suppressed by the Modi’s government. He also highlighted the differences between Modi’s ‘New India’ and ‘Hindu Rashtra.’ In addition, he mentioned that ‘Hindutva’ is actually an issue of social identity rather than religion. He further briefed the audience about the methods and tactics employed by the Modi’s government to silence the voices of dissent against the ruling government.

He concluded his discussion with some recommendations. He emphasized the role of international community of states to play its part in restricting India from its path of extremism. He further recommended that in this highly advanced age of digital media, it’s highly difficult for Modi’s regime to silence the voices of dissent against the ruling government. Sindh University appoints 5 faculty on various academic posts including 3 as heads of departments

Jamshoro, September 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Sindh University administration has appointed five senior faculty members on various academic posts including 3 heads of departments here on Wednesday. According to the separate notifications issued by the Registrar after seeking necessary approval from the competent authority, Professor Dr. Muhammad Akram Ansari has been appointed as the Director of the Center for Physical Education, Health and Sports Sciences and Dr. Muhammad Khan Sangi as the Director of the Institute of English Language and Literature.

According to a notification, Associate Professor Dr. Noor Muhammad Shah has been appointed as the Chairman of the Department of Sindhi. After their appointments, all the three heads of the academic centre, institute and department respectively have resumed charge.

On the other hand, Assistant Professor of Sindhi Department, Dr. Rushdullah Shah Bukhari has been appointed in charge of Arts Faculty Building, while Professor Dr. Tarique Hasan Umrani, who recently completed his three-year tenure as Director at the Institute of English Language and literature has been appointed as the honorary Director of Alumni Affairs and Student Employment.

Sindh University declares B.Sc. (Pass) Part-I Failure, Part-II results 

Jamshoro, September 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Controller of Annual Examinations University of Sindh Jamshoro Professor Dr. Sirajul Haque Kandharo has declared the results of B.Sc. (Pass) Part-I Failures and B.Sc. (Pass) Part-II here on Wednesday.

According to the examination results, as many as 10583 candidates took part in the BSc (Pass) Part II Annual Examinations 2020. Out of which a total of 8473 candidates have been declared successful and 925 fail in it. Moreover, 1271 candidates passed in first class, 7083 in second class and 119 in third class while 120 candidates remained absent in the examination.

However, the results of 629 candidates have been withheld due to failure in B.Sc. Part I while the results of 404 candidates have been held back by the conduct branch by dint of insufficient documents and the final reports of 32 candidates have not been announced due to copy cases. The overall success rate/ pass percentage in the examinations remained 66.92%.

On the other hand, a total of 3151 candidates participated in the BSC (Pass) Part I Annual Examinations 2020, out of which 2257 have been declared successful and 405 unsuccessful. In addition to it, 206 candidates remained absent in the examinations, however, the results of 278 candidates have been withheld by the conduct branch of the examination department due to incomplete documents.

Thus, the results of 5 more candidates have also been withheld due to copy cases. The overall passing percentage in the exams stood as 71.62%. The Controller said that the candidates whose exam results had been withheld by the Conduct Branch, could get their problem resolved by contacting the concerned branch.

He said that successful candidates could get their mark sheets from their respective colleges, adding that those who needed the pass certificate, transcript and degree certificates could come to the controller office and submit required documents and fees for the said testimonials.

The Islamia University of Bahawalpur has sent the first relief supplies to the flood affected areas of South Punjab

Bahawalpur, September 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):Vice Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob said that teachers and students of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur are working day and night to provide relief and rehabilitation in flood-affected areas. The Vice Chancellor expressed these views while addressing a press conference on the ongoing flood relief campaign of the university at the Abbasia campus today.

He said that flood relief campaign was started in the Islamia University of Bahawalpur on the instructions of Governor of the Punjab and Chancellor Engr. Baligh-ur-Rahman and relief activities have started from Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan campuses. Today IUB Senior Tutor Office and Performing Art Society, Directorate of Students Affairs in collaboration with Lucky Snacks are sending relief supplies to the flood affected areas of Jampur city of the district Rajhanpur, Punjab, Pakistan. The supplies include rations pack for 500 families, 50 tents, 20 gas stoves and 1,000 bottles of water.

He said that the teachers and students of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur will distribute these relief materials to the affected areas. Apart from this, the focal person of the university’s flood relief campaign, Prof. Dr. Asif Naveed Ranjha Chairman Department of Social Work has organized flood relief camps in various campuses in which students and female philanthropists have also submitted relief materials and donations.

He said that our faculty member arranged shoes for 400 people in the affected areas of Dera Ghazi Khan as their belongings were swept away in the flash floods. Chairman Department of Plant Pathology Prof. Dr. Naveed Aslam Mulghani is coordinating relief activities in Dera Ghazi Khan. The Vice Chancellor said that the University College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences will soon provide vaccines and medicines for cattle. A medical team will also be posted to the flooded areas under the leadership of Dr. Usman Cheema Chief Medical Officer.
