Australian pitches expert to arrive on 15 July 

Lahore, July 14, 2022 (PPI-OT):Damien Hough, head curator of Adelaide Oval, will in Lahore on 15 July on a two-week tour during which he will also visit Karachi, Multan and Rawalpindi.

Hough is one of the world’s best curators with a 26-year experience. During his visit, Hough will also inspect the outfields and pitch squares of the four Test centres.

Prior to his departure on 28 July, Hough will give lectures to the curators and the coaches of cricket and city cricket associations on pitch preparations and the basic methodology of pitch making for all three formats of the game.

He will also provide insights to local curators and coaches on introducing a day/night pitch for Test cricket, which is the most pinnacle format of the game.

7% Pakistanis say they have heard about Podcasts: Gallup and Gilani Pakistan 

Islamabad, July 14, 2022 (PPI-OT):According to a survey conducted by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, 7% Pakistanis say they have heard about Podcasts.

A nationally representative sample of adult men and women from across the country was asked the following question, “Have you heard of podcasts?” In response to this question, 7% said yes and 93% said no.

Engro Polymer and Chemicals, UET Lahore partner for first-of-its-kind industry-academia linkage program

Lahore, July 14, 2022 (PPI-OT):Engro Polymer and Chemicals (EPCL), a subsidiary of Engro Corporation, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the prestigious University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore, to strengthen industry-academia linkage through cooperation in research and innovation along with professional development opportunities for students.

The MoU was signed by Jahangir Piracha (CEO of EPCL) and Professor Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar (Vice Chancellor, UET Lahore), in the presence of officials of both institutions, and Pakistan Chemical Manufacturers Association representatives Haroon Ali Khan (Sr. Vice Chairman) and Abrar Ahmed (Vice President).

Under the agreement, EPCL and UET will jointly undertake research and development initiatives at the well-equipped testing facilities of the institute’s Polymer and Process engineering faculty. This partnership will enable quantitative advancements to EPCL’s PVC production process and the Quality function. It will also enhance the knowledge base and availability of technical experts for EPCL’s Techno-Commercial functions. Using these facilities, EPCL may also provide technical and management consultancy, and advisory services, to PVC finished goods manufacturers for optimized performance and innovative solutions.

For capability enhancement of UET students and faculty, EPCL will also assist students with pragmatic final year projects, will collaborate with the UET to develop and improve its curriculum, including subject matter specific to polymer industries, to ensure its alignment with the industry needs.

According to Jahangir Piracha, CEO of EPCL, “We are continuously striving to introduce new market development and awareness initiatives that enhance sustainability in the construction sector. This strategic alliance with the UET has been envisioned to promote research and development in Pakistan so that the polymer sector can evolve with innovation. Moreover, we aspire to enhance the skills of our talented youth, support their learning and development, and make them more marketable for the industry.”

Professor Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar, Vice Chancellor, UET Lahore, added that, “The students and faculty of UET are very excited about this partnership with EPCL. With our focus on research at the UET, I am confident that the industry will also benefit from our modern testing labs to support new product development. I hope that other players in the chemical industry also step up their efforts to bridge the industry-academia gap in Pakistan.”

As part of a Sustainable Development Initiative, the UET students will also be able to participate in EPCL’s community impact projects and gain valuable experience by solving real-world problems.

Lincoln Corner inaugurated at NUST 

Islamabad, July 14, 2022 (PPI-OT):Lincoln Corner was inaugurated at the NUST Islamabad campus on Thursday. At the occasion, Engr Javed Mahmood Bukhari, Rector NUST, and US Ambassador to Pakistan Mr Donald Blome signed a Memorandum of Understanding and inaugurated the Corner established in NUST Central Library.

This partnership signals the US Mission’s commitment to advance education in Pakistan by providing American resources, expertise, and collaboration for students and faculty. In his remarks, Ambassador Blome said, “This year marks the 75th anniversary of US-Pakistan bilateral relations. The people-to-people ties between our two countries are our greatest strength. The inauguration of this new Lincoln Corner will continue to advance these ties.” He maintained that over 600 Lincoln Corners across the world connect people through technology, academic programs and publications vis-à-vis American culture, history and international relations.

In his remarks, Rector NUST appreciated the joint efforts of NUST team and Public Affairs Section of US Embassy, for timely realisation of the initiative. He said Lincoln Corner is not only a multimedia resource centre with comfortable space for learning and open dialogue but also a manifestation of close linkages between NUST and the US Embassy. He further said that this facility will be used by not only students and faculty of NUST but also Pakistani civil society at large.

Representatives from the US Embassy joined NUST leadership, faculty and students at the inauguration. By hosting a Lincoln Corner, NUST joins a strong network of partnerships between the US Mission in Pakistan and eminent Pakistani institutions. Lincoln Corners are event spaces and resource centers that connect young leaders with the US. The Corner will host online and in-person educational programs. It includes a Maker Space equipped with a 3-D printer and virtual reality setup, a comprehensive book and magazine collection, resources on pursuing higher education in the US, digital information resources, and an Americana-themed event space.

The poor people in the country got poorer, while Bushra Bibi and Farah Gogi became richer: Shazia Atta Marri

Islamabad, July 14, 2022 (PPI-OT):Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety and Central Information Secretary of PPP-P Shazia Atta Marri while criticizing the PTI chief has said that if Imran Khan had courage then he would have faced the no-confidence motion against his ouster. Imran Khan was brought in the government through the thief door and likewise he ran away from that secret thief door. She said that firstly, Imran Khan said that he was happy when the no-trust motion was brought against him then later he tried to stop it.

She added that Imran Niazi has been putting pressure on the Election Commission of Pakistan to suspend the decision on foreign funding case and PTI has requested ten times for stopping the decision on the foreign funding case. She further said that Imran Khan was wishing that the Election Commission would be declared him as “Sadiq and Amin” while the funding from non-prohibited and suspicious bank accounts is an undeniable fact. She allegedly said that Imran Khan received donations on the name of establishing Shaukat Khanum Trust and utilized it for his political party.

While asking questions from Imran Khan, she said that Imran Khan should tell the truth that what was the cost of isolating Pakistan at global level and on whose agenda the economy of the country was destroyed? She said that Imran Khan launched camping against Pakistan origin Sadiq Khan during the elections of Mayor held in London while he clearly wanted Narendra Modi to win the election in India. While slamming PTI chief, she said that the poor people in the country got poorer while Bushra Bibi and Farah Gogi became the richest by corruption while Imran Khan is only trying to save Bushra Bibi and Farah Gogi and defending their corruption scandals.

Nawaz Sharif and his followers introduce PECA ordinance to stop “independent thinking and voices”: Ch Parvez Elahi

Lahore, July 14, 2022 (PPI-OT):Leaders of Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) called on Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Parvez Elahi in the Assembly Chamber. The CPNE delegation comprised President Kazim Khan, Irshad Arif, Ayaz Khan, Shehryar Taseer, Zia Tanoli and Zubair Mahmood. Speaker Ch Parvez Elahi fully supported the demands of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors and demanded immediate repeal of the PECA Ordinance 2016.

Ch Parvez Elahi said that Nawaz Sharif and his followers introduced the PECA Ordinance to shut down “independent thinking and voices” forever. This ordinance is the government’s discrimination against the journalist community and the people of Pakistan. The media is the fourth pillar of the state, we believe in its freedom. He said that freedom of media is very important for the development, security and endurance of Pakistan. It is not in our own interest to impose any kind of restriction on freedom of media. During the rule of Pakistan Muslim League, record licenses of electronic media were issued. Ch Parvez Elahi invited the international media to cover the by-elections to ensure the transparency of the elections.
