Lahore, June 21, 2022 (PPI-OT):The SAFE Society, in collaboration with the Department of Environmental Sciences at UOL, arranged an event to celebrate World Ocean Day on June 8, 2022. June 8th of every year is celebrated globally to raise awareness about the impact of human activities on the oceans and the life within. The theme for this year’s celebration was “Revitalization: Collective Action for the Ocean.” Human mismanagement had caused water pollution by plastic and debris, overfishing, and ocean acidification.

In this year’s event, a documentary related to World Ocean Day was shown to the students of various departments and a quiz competition on the theme of the day made the celebration more colourful. The main motive of this event was to sensitize the students about the role of SDG 13 (Climate Action) SDG 14 (Life below Water) and SDG 6 (Clean water and sanitation) in the broader perspectives of conservation, preservation, and restoration of the marine environment.

The event was honoured by the presence of Dr. Muhammad Iqbal (Dean, Faculty of Science) and Dr. Rab Nawaz (HoD, Environmental Sciences) as chief guests. Dr. Khawar Sultan (Assistant Professor, Environmental Sciences) coordinated the documentary section of the event.

Lahore, June 21, 2022 (PPI-OT):It is the need of the hour to stand up and raise our voices for the rights of children and make this world a safer place for our future generations to come. To mark the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal, SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, the University of Lahore arranged an awareness activity in collaboration with PAHCHAAN at Ilm Power Center, Walton on June 4, 2022. The children painted their faces and hands with different colours to demonstrate support, raise awareness about their protection gesture, and pay tribute to the victims of aggression.

Lahore, June 21, 2022 (PPI-OT):The University of Lahore (UOL) was invited to attend Usak University’s 3rd International Staff Week, titled “Reconnection in the New Era,” as part of the Erasmus+ staff mobility program in Turkey. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ashraf (Rector, UOL) and Mr. Salman Azam Joiya (Assistant Professor, Manager External Linkages, LBS) from UOL took part in Usak University’s international week in Turkey from June 5 to June 10, 2022.

To initiate bilateral academic programs, UOL and Usak University signed three mutual agreements that are Memorandum of Cooperation, Mevlana faculty and student exchange and Erasmus+ project for faculty/staff and student exchange.

Lahore, June 21, 2022 (PPI-OT):The University of Lahore (UOL) celebrated the recently released Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2022. UOL has been ranked one complete category up among 301 – 350 Best Asian Universities and the top 2 private universities of Pakistan.

Mr. Awais Raoof (Chairman, BoG) along with Mr. Uzair Raoof (Deputy Chairman, BoG), Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ashraf (Rector), Mr. Nasir Mahmood (Pro-Rector, Academics) and Deans of Faculty congratulated the whole UOL family during a cake cutting ceremony held on June 2, 2022. He further hoped that the university would keep climbing up on the rankings’ ladder.

Lahore, June 21, 2022 (PPI-OT):Mr. Awais Raoof (Chairman, BoG, UOL) participated in the “International Al-Farabi Iqbal Forum” which was jointly organized by COMSTECH, the Government of Kazakhstan, and the International Turkic Academy at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) Almaty, Kazakhstan, on May 26-27, 2022.

Mr. Raoof was part of a 13-member delegation from Pakistan including Senator Waleed Iqbal and other scholars. The conference was inaugurated by the speeches of the President of the International Turkic Academy, Coordinator General of COMSTECH, Chairman-Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and Deputy Minister of Education and Science along with representatives of international organizations, scholars from the Turkic countries and the OIC member states, representatives of the intelligentsia, members of the diplomatic and parliamentary corps and experts.

The forum conducted plenary sessions on “Iqbal’s Philosophy: Past, Present, and Future”, “The Global Impact of Iqbal’s Philosophy and Poetry”, and “The Challenges of the 21st Century and Technology”. The sessions were attended by prominent scientists and experts from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkiye, Pakistan, Great Britain, Russia, Tajikistan and other OIC member states.
