MoU Signed between University of Chitral and Extreme Commerce 

Chitral, June 20, 2022 (PPI-OT):The University of Chitral signed MOU with extreme commerce Pvt Ltd, one of the largest e-commerce platforms. Extreme commerce has equipped thousands of Pakistani youths with different contemporary digital skills such as Amazon, Shopify, E-Bay, Etasy, Facebook, YouTube etc who are now earning online.

University of Chitral students will have access to Extreme Commerce’s virtual boot camp where they will have free access to all these digital skills. Mr. Mansoor Ullah Baig, HOD Department of Management Sciences will be the focal person of this program. He appreciated the efforts of Extreme Commerce in imparting skills to students in remote areas.

Discovering the Abilities in Graduating Students towards the Self-Assessment, Job Readiness and Job-Hunting Techniques 

Jamshoro, June 20, 2022 (PPI-OT):The IEEE Communication Society (ComSoc), Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), Student Branch Chapter in collaboration with IEEE ComSoc Karachi Chapter, IEEE ComSoc Karachi Section, and QS World Merit organized a workshop titled as “Discovering the Abilities in Graduating Students Towards the Self-Assessment, Job Readiness and Job-Hunting Techniques”, on May 10, 2022, at U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W) auditorium, MUET Jamshoro, Pakistan.

The objective of this workshop was to provide the career counselling and awareness about the possible job opportunities to the fresh graduates. This workshop aimed to develop the job hunting, self-assessments, and job readiness skills along with the career roadmap for fresh graduates. The guest speaker of this workshop was Mr. Waqas Soomro who is working as a CEO of Smart Mentor.io. The workshop was formally started with the recitation of the Holy Quran and the national anthem of Pakistan.

Afterwards, Dr. Umair Ahmed Korai, Assistant Professor dept. of Telecom Eng., MUET and Vice Chair IEEE ComSoc Karachi Chapter, welcomed the chief guest, guest speaker, organizers, and participants. Prof. Dr. Aftab Ahmed Memon, DEAN faculty of Electrical Electronics and Computer Engineering, MUET Jamshoro, attended the workshop as a chief guest. After the welcome address by Dr. Umair, the guest speaker Mr. Waqas delivered his lecture for 01 hour and 30 minutes.

Mr. Waqas made the students aware of general questions being asked during an interview. He also discussed about the main skills required jobs. He further gave directions for writing personal resume. In last, he shared his visions and ideas about emerging social media app, such as LinkedIn, and its benefits for developing career as most of the people have initially started their career through social media apps like LinkedIn.

The total number of participants in this workshop were 94 out of which 23 were IEEE members and 71 were non-IEEE members. As the capacity of USPCAS-W auditorium is more than 200, hence COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures were also followed. Before the end of the workshop many questions were asked from the participants and were answered very well by Mr. Waqas. The workshop was then ended with the special thanks to the guest speaker Mr. Waqas Soomro, coordinator, organizers, and participants by Ms. Hafsa Noaman, Chair IEEE ComSoc MUET Student Branch Chapter followed by a group picture with guest speaker and organizing team.

REDC Conducts ‘Leading Business Transformation’ Programme for Faysal Bank 

Lahore, June 20, 2022 (PPI-OT):Faysal Bank Limited (FBL) is in the process of converting its operations from conventional banking to Riba free Islamic banking. Presently, FBL’s Islamic branches account for nearly 97% of its total network which spans 600+ branches and is on track to reaching 100 per cent conversion in the near future. This conversion is a landmark achievement and is an example for other banks planning to follow the same track.

In order to empower, enable and facilitate the Bank to complete and sustain its conversion from a conventional bank to an Islamic bank, a customised programme, ‘Leading Business Transformation’ was organised at the Rausing Executive Development Centre (REDC), LUMS from June 8 – 11, 2022.

Directed by Dr. Jamshed Khan and Dr. Jawad Syed, the programme was attended by senior members of FBL with the aim to address the challenges of a continued strategic overhaul from a conventional banking system to Islamic banking. Using examples of successful organisations to analyse ownership, hindrances and challenges for achieving organisational transformation, the programme reinforced Faysal Bank’s vision of transforming into a customer focused Islamic bank.

President and CEO Faysal Bank, Yousaf Hussain appreciated the efforts of REDC and the programme directors for their effort. “I am impressed by the value added, comprehensive and enriching four days training provided by the seasoned faculty. Thank you for your support. The takeaways will serve as a roadmap for all of us and help sustain and further improve our customer value proposition,” said Mr. Hussain.

Neurobiology of Emotions

Lahore, June 20, 2022 (PPI-OT):Department of Psychology, University of Central Punjab, organized an interactive and enlightening seminar on “Neurobiology of Emotions”. The eminent Professor, Dr Aneeq Ahmad, was the speaker and the guest of honour. Professor Dr Aneeq Ahmad is a distinguished Professor and Chair at Henderson State University, Arkadelphia (USA). He has completed his MSC in Psychology from Government College University Lahore. He did his MS and PhD in behavioural neuroscience from the University of Wisconsin, USA. He also had a research fellowship with the National Institute of Health, USA.

Dr Aneeq is an internationally renowned neuroscientist. He is a member of the Society for Neuroscience (SFN), The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), the American Psychological Association (APA), and the Southwestern Psychological Association (SWPA). Moreover, He is serving as a consulting editor for many journals. He has written many research articles and published them with a keen interest in neuroscience.

Above all, Dr Aneeq Ahmad is a son of our very own Ashfaq Ahmad and Bano Aapa. The seminar was intended to provide a platform for exchanging knowledge and the best experience in the field of neurobiology of emotions. He started from primitive perceptions and took it to the latest development in feelings. He shared his expert knowledge and broad experience with the audience in a very energetic manner. Later, the question-answer session helped the audience understand and relate the complex phenomena of emotions. Faculty and students actively participated in the seminar and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Department of Accounting and Finance Holds a Seminar on “Four Pillars of the Character Building – A Motivational Talk” 

Islamabad, June 20, 2022 (PPI-OT):Department of Accounting and Finance organized a seminar titled “Four Pillars of Character Building” under the supervision of Ms. Hajra Qayyum, on June 17, 2022, at 11:00 AM. in auditorium A2. The guest speaker was Mr. Ahmed Siddiqui – Assistant Chief Manager (ACM) – State Bank of Pakistan. He has worked for the State Bank for more than three decades and has vast knowledge and experience in central banking. He is a lecturer and a trainer at the National Institute of Banking and Finance (NIBAF) and various other commercial banks.

The seminar aimed to guide the students regarding the pillars that can help them build a strong character along with techniques as to how to discover and experience which qualities and behaviours are an expression of good character. It aimed at providing students with an opportunity to look into their character to improve themselves and to evaluate which traits to let go of or incorporate into their behaviour.
