Faisalabad, January 21, 2022 (PPI-OT):A team from Gohar Textile Mills (Pvt.) Ltd. Faisalabad, consisting of Mr. Gohar Mustafa (Director) visited research facilities at National Textile University, Faisalabad. An MoU was signed between Gohar Textile Mills (Pvt.) Ltd and NTU. The parties agreed to promote industry-academia collaboration through joint research and development activities of mutual interest in accordance with their respective needs and objectives.

Punjab University HCBF and Meezan Bank sign MoU

Lahore, January 21, 2022 (PPI-OT):Punjab University Hailey College of Banking and Finance (HCBF) and Meezan Bank have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen their linkages for accomplishment of mutual objectives. In this regard an impressive ceremony held in which HCBF and Meezan Bank Ltd signed MoU to collaborate for placement of graduated students, curriculum development in Islamic Banking, institutional support for creating awareness on Islamic banking and fellowship programs for faculty development.

HCBF Principal Prof Dr Mubbsher Munawar Khan and Head of Shariah Compliance Ahmed Ali Siddiqui signed the document. Speaking at the occasion Prof Dr Mubbsher Munawar Khan expressed his confidence that this document would pave way for enhancing academic excellence, employability, and research in the area of Islamic banking. Ahmed Ali Siddiqui also conducted a seminar and spoke to the students on development and growth of Islamic banking. He advised the students to keep them updated on the religious aspects also so that they carve their future as ordained by Allah.

False propaganda 

Lahore, January 21, 2022 (PPI-OT):It is intimated that lot of propaganda is being spread on social media regarding involvement of Punjab University student of Balochistan and arrest of any of Baloch student of PU. It is clarified that these news on social media are totally fake and no student of Punjab University is involved or linked with the Anarkali blast.

Punjab Assembly defers question hour, discusses Murree incident

Islamabad, January 21, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Punjab Assembly deferred question hour on Friday and discussed Murree incident and farmers issues especially availability of fertilizers to them, observes Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) it its daily factsheet.

Following are key observations of the House proceedings during the first and last sitting of 39th session:

Members’ Participation

The House met for an hour and nine minutes.

The sitting started at 04:33 pm against the scheduled time of 03:00 pm.

The speaker chaired the entire sitting.

The deputy speaker was not present.

The leader of the house (chief minister) was not present.

The opposition leader attended the sitting for 20 minutes.

As many as 56 MPAs (15%) were present at the outset and 38 (10%) at the adjournment of the sitting.

Parliamentary leaders of all political parties were absent.

Four out of eight minority lawmakers attended the sitting.

Representation and Responsiveness

The Chair deferred the question hour and zero-hour notices.

Three lawmakers including the opposition leader and the Minister for law debated Murree incident and availability of fertilizers to farmers. They spoke for 40 minutes on both issues.

Order and Institutionalization

A lawmaker spoke on a point of order for one minute.

PML-N lawmakers walked out from the House at 05:09 pm for not broadcasting the speech of the opposition leader live on official media.

The session was prorogued sine die.

Transparency

‘Orders of the Day’ was not available on Punjab Assembly’s website.

Faisalabad, January 21, 2022 (PPI-OT):Department of Materials, National Textile University, Faisalabad organized an international conference on “Polymers and Composites” on 7-8 December 2021. The event was organized in collaboration with UET Lahore; COMSATS, Lahore Campus; SCME, NUST; and University Tecknologi, Malaysia. The event comprised of 6 technical sessions, and 40 speakers from USA, Turkey, South Korea, Malaysia, China, Czech Republic and Pakistan presented their research and experiences in these sessions.

Two player replacements for West Indies at ICC U19 Men’s CWC 2022

Dubai, January 21, 2022 (PPI-OT):The ICC has confirmed that the Event Technical Committee of the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2022 has approved Kevin Wickham and Nathan Edward as replacements for Onaje Amory and Jaden Carmichael in the West Indies squad.

Wickham and Edward are temporary replacements for Amory and Carmichael who have tested positive for COVID-19 and are undergoing a period of isolation. A COVID replacement can be temporary, in that once the player has recovered he would be eligible to return to the squad in position of the player that replaced him.

The replacement of a player requires the approval of the Event Technical Committee before the replacement player can be officially added to the squad. The Event Technical Committee consists of the Chair Chris Tetley (ICC Head of Events), Ben Leaver (ICC Senior Event Manager), Fawwaz Baksh (Tournament Director) Roland Holder (CWI Representative) Alan Wilkins and Russel Arnold (both independent representatives).

West Indies will face Sri Lanka today (21 January) in their group D match at Conaree Sports Club.
