PPP announces long march towards Islamabad in February

Karachi, January 06, 2022 (PPI-OT):Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari addressed a press conference and apprised the nation of the decisions taken in the meeting of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) and Federal Council of the party held on the 5th January and validated by the core committee of the party on 6th January. He said that Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto laid the foundation of the party in Lahore and we are starting our movement to dislodge this government from the same city. He said that the CEC urged the Supreme Court to revisit the judicial murder of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. His murder is the biggest attack on Pakistan. The entire Pakistan is waiting for the Supreme Court’s decision in this regard.

The CEC condemned the government for its failure in dissolving the people’s problems. The government created crises relating to that of agriculture, gas, power, poverty, unemployment, extremism and terrorism. The CEC also expressed its concerns over the state’s surrender before militants, the situation in Afghanistan and the secret deal on racodik. He said that Shaheed Benazir Bhutto had struggled for the merger of tribal areas and the cause was also a part of her last manifesto. Unfortunately, the merger was not fully implemented and the promises made to the people of the tribal areas were not fulfilled. There are conspiracies being hatched to reverse the merger, which we will strongly resist.

We demand fresh, fair and transparent elections in the country because the solution of the problems of the people is in democracy, democracy and more democracy. We demand of the ECP to take action against PTI, which hid its foreign funding for seven long years. We have formed a legal team to look into it and challenge it. In the mini-budget, our economic independence has been compromised, our legal team is also working on challenging it because we want out State Bank to be sovereign.

He said that the CEC urged the Supreme Court to vacate the stay order against the minimum wages of Rs. 25000 per month and we ask the Supreme Court to not be a hurdle in our provincial autonomy. The government has tried to extend the expired ordinances through the National Assembly. We will challenge this act of the government. The CEC also condemned the atrocities against Kashmiris in occupied Kashmir and appealed to the international community to take notice. The CEC also paid tributes to the PPP’s legal team which was successful in getting 16000 workers restored through the Supreme Court.

The PPP has prepared a White Paper exposing the government that will be taken to the people. Taj Haider has prepared a report on rigging in the elections, we will take that report to the ECP and ask for action to be taken against this government. PPP protested against price-hike, shortage of gas, increased price of petroleum. Now, according to the decision of the CEC, this protest will progress to the second phase from today. The government wants to bulldoze the mini-budget but we will oppose it within and outside the Parliament. The day the mini-budget will be tabled, we will protest in front of the Parliament House.

Chairman PPP said that the growers of the country are being thrown from pillar to post for fertilizer and the crisis has gotten so big that they are suffering losses owing to the deprivation caused by the government. The poor growers are compelled to buy fertilizer from the black market. We will hold Kisan rallies in every division of Pakistan. The people are not ready to tolerate this incompetent government anymore and are demanding for it to be sent home.

Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari announced that the PPP will start a long march against this government, commencing on 27 February, from Mazar-e-Quaid and heading towards Islamabad. Responding to questions, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the PDM did not engage the PPP in its decisions. We invite the entire nation to defend their democratic and economic rights. It is up to the PDM whether they want to resign or not. Out stand on the establishment and other institutions is that every institution should work within its constitutional domain.

We hope that this will happen. If the establishment has said that it is neutral, then we welcome it. We are in Lahore because the people of Lahore and Punjab have always supported the PPP, be it was Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto or Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. The people in this city had welcomed Shaheed Benazir Bhutto in 1986 in great numbers and with enthusiasm which is a record to this day. The people of Lahore and Punjab are once again looking at the PPP. We increased our votes six folds in the recent bye-elections. I request the people of Punjab to support me as I will not disappoint them. We only look towards the people for support and no one else.

Answering a question, he said that he laid the foundation of PDM. We had a very good strategy. We convinced our friends to take part in bye-elections, then the election for a Senate seat in the National Assembly. We defeated Imran Khan in all elections. He said that he desires for every democratic force to come out against this incapable government. He said that those who engage in the ‘politics of deals’ do not have graveyards of martyrs.

Replying to another question, he said that the party’s manifesto committee is working on the manifesto for the next elections. The basis of our manifesto is always “Roti, Kapra aur Makan”. Chairman Bilawal said that the entire PPP will be present on the day of voting on mini-budget and hopes that the entire opposition will also be there. He said that some TV channels were not reporting the amount he paid as agriculture tax. The PPP Media Office released the figures of the total taxes he paid for the last five years.

He said that Imran Khan used to call everyone a thief but he was exposed as the biggest thief himself. Imran Khan is the only person in the whole of Pakistan who got 5800 percent richer whereas the entire nation has become poorer. The people of Pakistan want to know how he became rich overnight.

Responding to another question, he said that the PPP always stabilised the country’s economy. During the PPP government in 2008-2013, when the world was facing recession, it was the PPP which increased pay and pensions up to 100%. The PPP started Benazir Income Support Programme to help the poor women of Pakistan. We were facing a food shortage in 2008 but in one year, we began exporting wheat and rice. Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the PPP can deal with the economic crisis which the country is facing today.

Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari welcomes over 80 former LG representatives to the party

Karachi, January 06, 2022 (PPI-OT):Prior to the local body elections in Punjab, more than 80 local government representatives from nine districts of the Punjab province have joined the Pakistan Peoples Party. These representatives are from the nine districts of Punjab including Kasur, Okara, Vehari, Sahiwal, Multan, Jhang, Layyah and Lodhran. The representatives who joined the PPP are the former Chairmen of Municipal Committees and Union Councils, former General Councillors, members of Kisan Ittehad and important personalities of the business community.

The Chair PPP, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari hosted a lunch at Bilawal House Lahore in honour of the new entrants in the party. Addressing them, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the PPP has always been a party of grass roots; it is still a party of grass roots and will always remain a party of grass roots.

Addressing the new entrants in the party, he said that the PPP has always stabilised the country in difficult times. Pakistan is passing through tough times now. The current government is anti-people. The PPP has always looked after the downtrodden masses. It has always provided jobs to the people and the slogan was that “Benazir Aaye gi, Rozgar Laye gi”.

In 1970s, during the government of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto we introduced 5 marla schemes and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto in 1990s introduced 7 marla schemes. Now, this selected government that had promised 5 million houses has snatched shelter from the poor of this country. This government of the selected had promised 10 million jobs but thousands were rendered unemployed. People want to get rid of this government. I need your help to put this country on the right track.

Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the PPP always empowered the people of Pakistan. President Zardari, who was the most powerful civil president of this country, transferred all his powers to the representatives of the people of Pakistan, the Parliament. We always desired to empower the provinces and the local governments. This is why in Sindh, the PPP has introduced a local government system through the Sindh Assembly which empowers the local governments. Sindh chief minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah is making local governments powerful by enabling the them to generate their own revenue.

The mayor has been made the Chairman of the Water Board. The waste management is co-chaired by the mayor. Local governments have been empowered to receive reports from the police, education and health departments biweekly. We want to strengthen the local governments. The local government systems in the federal capital Islamabad and Punjab have been imposed by ordinances. Chairman Bilawal welcomed all new entrants to the party and said that the PPP is not only a political party, but a family where we are together in joy and grief, in successes and defeats.

Rizwan adjudged Most Valuable Cricketer of 2021

Lahore, January 06, 2022 (PPI-OT):Mohammad Rizwan has won the PCB’s Most Valuable Cricketer of the Year award following a stellar 2021 in which he scored 455 Test, 134 ODI and 1,326 T20I runs, besides accounting for 56 batsmen behind the wickets across all formats.

For the Most Valuable Cricketer of the Year award, Rizwan beat the challenge of Babar Azam, Hasan Ali and Shaheen Shah Afridi, who also had an impressive and outstanding year, which is reflected through Pakistan’s overall performance in 2021.

In addition to the Most Valuable Cricketer of the Year award, Rizwan was also unanimously selected by an independent panel* as the T20I Cricketer of the Year.

Mohammad Rizwan: “I feel humbled and honoured to have been adjudged Pakistan’s Most Valuable Cricketer of 2021. This is the PCB’s most prestigious award and to be recognised for my contributions in the team’s superlative performances across all formats in 2021 in such a way gives me tremendous satisfaction and happiness.

“I thought I had an exceptional year in the shortest format of the game when I was able to hit a century early in the year against South Africa and then carry that confidence and momentum for the rest of the year. I give a lot of credit to our bowlers who bowled their hearts out and didn’t let the pressure get onto the batters by maintaining sustained pressure on the opponents throughout the year.”

Hasan Ali won the Test Cricketer of the Year for his 41 wickets in nine Tests, including a 10-for and five, five-fors as well as two player of the match and one player of the series awards.

Pakistan all-format captain Babar Azam bagged the ODI Cricketer of the Year award for accumulating 405 runs in six ODIs with two centuries and a half-century.

Hasan Ali: “Test cricket is the pinnacle format of the game and to be adjudged as the Test Cricketer of the Year is a proud moment for me. Last year was sort of a comeback year for me after I had missed international cricket in 2020 due to an injury. I was not only able to make a successful return to international cricket but also played my part in the team’s overall success in 2021.

“Taking 10 wickets against South Africa in Rawalpindi in my second Test in nearly two years and helping Pakistan win the series 2-0 was one of my highlights of the year and a very happy moment that set the stage for the remaining part of the year.”

Shaheen Shah Afridi’s three for 31 against India on 24 October in Dubai in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 won him the Impactful Performance of the Year award. This performance changed the outlook of the side as it not only defeated India by 10 wickets but remained unbeaten in the league matches until they lost a heart-breaking match to Australia in the semi-final. Subsequent to the T20 World Cup, Pakistan remained unbeaten in Bangladesh as well as in the home T20I series against the West Indies.

Shaheen Shah Afridi: “I am extremely happy that my performance against our traditional rivals in a global event has been chosen as the Impactful Performance of the Year. For the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, the team wanted an aggressive, fearless and convincing start to set the tone for the rest of the event and I am delighted that I was able to provide exactly that.”

Mohammad Wasim Junior bagged the Emerging Cricketer of the Year for his 45 wickets in 2021, including 15 wickets in his first year of international cricket, while Nida Dar was named as the Women’s Cricketer of the Year after aggregating 604 runs and taking 25 wickets.

Sahibzada Farhan won the Domestic Cricketer of the Year following his 487 runs in the Pakistan Cup, 447 runs in the National T20 and 935 runs in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.

For the second successive year, PCB’s elite match officials voted Asif Yaqoob as the Umpire of the Year.

Pakistan cricket team’s visit to the Namibia dressing room following their 45 runs victory to congratulate and appreciate them on their qualification for their maiden ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and reaching the Super-12 stage won them the Spirit of Cricket award.

PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja: “On behalf of the PCB, I want to congratulate each award winner. They deserve all the applause and accolades for their tremendous consistency across all formats in difficult times that inspired their sides to outstanding performances throughout 2021, which have been widely acknowledged by the Pakistan cricket fans.”
