REDC Launches New Programme on Organisational Transformation for Powering Innovation and Growth

Lahore, December 29, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Rausing Executive Development Centre (REDC) at LUMS has launched a flagship programme on Organisational Transformation for Powering Innovation and Growth, adding to its expanding portfolio of Strategy and Innovation for senior executives.

Developed by Dr. Adeel Zaffar and Dr. Alnoor Bhimani, the programme focuses on the capabilities required to compete in a rapidly transforming business scape, understand digitalisation opportunities and challenges, and launch new strategies enabling them to transform scale and operational efficiencies.

Adopting a hands-on approach to learning, the programme featured local brands and industry leaders who have achieved hugely successful transformation and domination of their markets. Mujtaba Hussain, CFO International Steel Ltd, shared his feedback and noted, “This programme helped me to think differently about organisational transformation, the need for digitisation and promoting growth.”

“This programme is an eye-opener,” says Suleyman Shafi Batla, Director Ana and Batla Industries. “The quality of material and mentoring of all participants with multiple case studies for enhancing the thinking style about diversity, innovation and growth with 100% involvement was outstanding. Everyone was participatory and all credit goes to the faculty for that.”

The three-day residential programme encompassed the fundamental business practices, technological advances and digital approaches that are changing business models across industries in an evolving world. It aims to equip participants with the clearest lens through which to make strategic decisions that ensures not just organisational survival but powers growth.

Faculty members introduced participants to an array of skills on how to sponsor pockets of innovation within the organisation to achieve competitive differentiation and mobilise change that creates value for customers while leaving the competition behind.

Zara Hussain, Director Strategy GroupM, says, “The programme has been very revealing and led me to reflect on organisational issues from a completely new perspective. I hope to make others within the organisation see it too.”

Senate takes up 95 percent agenda 

Islamabad, December 29, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Senate transacted 95 percent agenda on Wednesday and consumed more than one-third of the proceedings’ time in debate on matters of public importance, observes Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) in the Daily Factsheet.

Following are key observations of the proceedings during the fourth and last sitting of 316th session:

Members’ Participation

The Senate met for three hours and nine minutes.

The sitting started at the scheduled time of 10:30 am.

The chairman presided over the entire sitting.

The deputy chairman was not present.

The leader of the house attended the entire sitting.

The opposition leader attended the sitting for two hours and 29 minutes.

The Prime Minister was not present.

As many as 12 lawmakers (12%) were present at the outset and 22 (22%) at the adjournment of sitting.

The parliamentary leaders of PPPP, PML-N, PTI, PkMAP, JI, PML-F, BAP, ANP, PML and JUI-F attended the sitting.

Three out of four minority lawmaker were present.

Output

The House passed three motions under Rule 194 (1) grating extension of sixty working days to standing committee on human rights for presentation of reports on as many legislative proposal.

The House witnessed presentation of 12 reports of various standing committees as eight reports were on legislative proposals, three on started questions and one on a point of public importance.

Advisor to Prime Minister on parliamentary affairs laid copy of the Paigham-e-Pakistan adopted and recommended for laying in the Parliament by the Council of Islamic Ideology. He also laid before the House rules under sub-section (3) of section 21 of the Pakistan Single Window Act, 2021.

Representation and Responsiveness

The House took up 12 out of 22 starred questions while lawmakers asked 38 supplementary questions.

Minister of state for parliamentary affairs responded to a calling attention notices (CAN) about laying off the jobs of Railways patrollers.

Another CAN regarding non-implementation of deletion program in automobile sector was deferred on the request of relevant minister.

Nine lawmakers spoke on matters of public importance for an hour and seven minutes (35 percent of the proceedings’ time).

Order and Institutionalization

The opposition lawmakers walked out from the house for 11 minutes against not taking parliament into confidence over national security policy. Later, they also protested in the house on the same issue for six minutes.

The session was prorogued sine die.

Transparency

Orders of the Day was available to the legislators, observers and public.

Attendance of lawmakers was available to the media and observers.

Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay visits to Sindh Madressatul Islam and Mazar-e-Quaid 

Karachi, December 29, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton visited Sindh Madressatul Islam University in the morning of 28 December, 2021 where a ceremony was held and a large number of students, athletes, faculty, Old Alumni, Sports Legends, Special and Diplomats were present.

Prof. Dr. Mujeebuddin Sahrai Memon, Vice Chancellor, Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) welcomed and thanked Lt Gen (R) Syed Arif Hasan, President CGA Pakistan for giving an opportunity to SMIU of sharing the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton which arrived first time in Karachi.

The President CGA Pakistan thanked the Vice Chancellor and his team for their interest and involvement in organizing such an impressive event. He also thanked to the Vice Chancellor for allowing CGA Pakistan to commence the proceedings of the Queen’s Baton Relay from the school of the Quaid. We all are proud of this institution, which has produced a personality like the Quaid where he spent a large period of his initial education. He loved this institution, got it upgraded to a college and inaugurated the same himself. Besides his studies, his interests in sports were very apparent from his wordings of the speech that he delivered during the inauguration of the college. He sated “Every Inch of these splendid grounds where I took part in various games, I know”.

After the SMIU event the Queen’s Baton visited Mazar-e-Quaid where a grand ceremony was held which was attended by Mr Syed Murad Ali Shah, Chief Minister Sindh. President CGA Pakistan welcomed and thanked the Honourable Chief Minister Sindh for sparing the time and for joining the Queen’s Baton Relay ceremony. He also expressed gratitude to the Commissioner Karachi and his team for making excellent and fool proof arrangements for this international event.

The President CGA Pakistan informed the participants that it is great honour for the city of Karachi that first National Games were held at Karachi under the directions of Quaid-e-Azam where he donated a trophy named as Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. So far 33 chapters of the National Games have been held and this trophy is awarded to the winner of the National Games. Pakistan Olympic Association was also created under the directions of the Quaid-e-Azam to organize the National Games and participation of Pakistan contingent in the London 1948 Olympic Games.

The Chief Minister Sindh expressed his happiness over the Queen’s Baton first time visit to Karachi. He thanked CGA Pakistan for selecting the city of Karachi for this international event. He ensured his complete support to the Sindh Olympic Association and Pakistan Olympic Association for holding such prestigious events in future as well in the province of Sindh. He also expressed that Sindh Government will be happy to extend help in terms of local and foreign training to the elite athletes who are best of the best.

The Chief Guest thanked Mr. Martin Dawson for gracing today’s event and expressed his best wishes for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games which, he said, were sure to be a great success. On this occasion the Queen’s Baton was handed over to CM Sindh by President CGA Pakistan. The Chief Guest further handed over Queen’s Baton to the Commissioner Karachi. The Baton further moved to Olympians, World Champions, Commonwealth Games Medallists. Para athletes also shared / exchanged the Baton.

The next event of the Queen’s Baton Relay will be held in the forenoon of 29 December, 2021 at Karachi Grammar School. In the afternoon, the Baton will move to Moulana Muhammad Ali Johar Park, Kakri Ground, Lyari where it will be shared among sports legends, dignitaries, national and international athletes, the community and its youth.

UET Lahore Alumni Arranged Centennial Celebrations in Islamabad 

Lahore, December 29, 2021 (PPI-OT):The UET alumni arranged a function to celebrate 100th anniversary of their alma mater at Tulip Marque in Islamabad. Around 400 alumni of the university attended the event. The Vice Chancellor of the university Prof. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar was the chief guest. Chairman of Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) and PTI MNA from Karachi, Mr. Najeeb Haroon was the guest of honour.

Other notable alumni present in the function were former Minister of Planning and former Deputy Chairman Pakistan Planning Commission, Dr. Muhammad Akram Sheikh and former Chairmen PEMRA Mian Javed and Kamal Uddin Tipu. The event was fully sponsored by Engr. Azhar ul Islam Zafar, a graduate of the 89-Civil Engineering batch of the university and an elected member of PEC.

The Vice Chancellor the organisers and briefed the audience about UET’s progress in academics, including its continuously improving world and Asian rankings. He also informed the participants about tuition-free PhD offered by the university as well as its policy to not let go any student admitted on merit due to proven case of financial hardship. He thanked all those who have contributed to university’s fund for the needy students.

Mr. Najeeb Haroon congratulated the university on completing 100 years of academic excellence. He pledged to improve the status of engineers in the country as well as create more job opportunities for them during his tenure. Dr. Akram Sheikh, Mian Javed, Mr. Kamal Uddin Tipu, Mr. Azhar ul Islam, and others narrated their memories of their university days and pledged to help their alma mater in any way they could. Mr. Azhar pledged to help strengthen university’s relations with its alumni to improve quality of graduates as well as help the university in its financial affairs.

Dean and Chancellor Honor Roll Ceremony was hosted by Faculty of Pharmacy 

Islamabad, December 29, 2021 (PPI-OT):Dean’s Honor Ceremony of Faculty of Pharmacy was held on December 27, 2021 at Auditorium A1. Among all, forty-one students were given certificates on their academic excellence. Thirty-Eight students were given Dean’s Honor certificate whereas Chancellor’s Honor was given to three students. Dr. Muzaffar Abbas, Dr. Samra Bashir, Dr. Mahboob Alam, Dr. Nadia Shamshad Malik and Dr. Nisar ul Khaliq distributed the certificates among the students. At the end of session, Dr. Muzaffar Abbas, Dean Pharmacy congratulate the students and wish them the best of luck in future.

Interdepartmental Volleyball Tournament Organized by Capital University 

Islamabad, December 29, 2021 (PPI-OT):Faculty of Pharmacy organized Inter-Departmental Volley-ball Tournament. The tournament was started on December 13, 2021 and concluded on December 24, 2021, at the university sports ground. Dr. Mahboob Alam was the convener of the tournament. Boys and girls team from Pharmacy, Bioinformatics and Biosciences, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, English, Psychology, Management Sciences, Accounting and Finance, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering participated in the tournament.

Girls final Volleyball match was held on December 23, 2021 between Psychology and Computer Science. The Computer Science department won the final. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mansoor Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor along with Dr. Muzaffar Abbas, Dean Pharmacy distributed the trophy to the winning team.

Boys final Volley-ball match was held on December 24, 2021 between Pharmacy and Civil Engineering. Civil Engineering department won the final. Prof Dr. Muhammad Abdul Qadir, Dean Faculty of Computing and Faculty of Health and Life Sciences along with Dr. Muzaffar Abbas, Dean Pharmacy distributed the trophy to the winning team.
