Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay visits to Sindh Madressatul Islam and Mazar-e-Quaid 

Karachi, December 29, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton visited Sindh Madressatul Islam University in the morning of 28 December, 2021 where a ceremony was held and a large number of students, athletes, faculty, Old Alumni, Sports Legends, Special and Diplomats were present.

Prof. Dr. Mujeebuddin Sahrai Memon, Vice Chancellor, Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) welcomed and thanked Lt Gen (R) Syed Arif Hasan, President CGA Pakistan for giving an opportunity to SMIU of sharing the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton which arrived first time in Karachi.

The President CGA Pakistan thanked the Vice Chancellor and his team for their interest and involvement in organizing such an impressive event. He also thanked to the Vice Chancellor for allowing CGA Pakistan to commence the proceedings of the Queen’s Baton Relay from the school of the Quaid. We all are proud of this institution, which has produced a personality like the Quaid where he spent a large period of his initial education. He loved this institution, got it upgraded to a college and inaugurated the same himself. Besides his studies, his interests in sports were very apparent from his wordings of the speech that he delivered during the inauguration of the college. He sated “Every Inch of these splendid grounds where I took part in various games, I know”.

After the SMIU event the Queen’s Baton visited Mazar-e-Quaid where a grand ceremony was held which was attended by Mr Syed Murad Ali Shah, Chief Minister Sindh. President CGA Pakistan welcomed and thanked the Honourable Chief Minister Sindh for sparing the time and for joining the Queen’s Baton Relay ceremony. He also expressed gratitude to the Commissioner Karachi and his team for making excellent and fool proof arrangements for this international event.

The President CGA Pakistan informed the participants that it is great honour for the city of Karachi that first National Games were held at Karachi under the directions of Quaid-e-Azam where he donated a trophy named as Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. So far 33 chapters of the National Games have been held and this trophy is awarded to the winner of the National Games. Pakistan Olympic Association was also created under the directions of the Quaid-e-Azam to organize the National Games and participation of Pakistan contingent in the London 1948 Olympic Games.

The Chief Minister Sindh expressed his happiness over the Queen’s Baton first time visit to Karachi. He thanked CGA Pakistan for selecting the city of Karachi for this international event. He ensured his complete support to the Sindh Olympic Association and Pakistan Olympic Association for holding such prestigious events in future as well in the province of Sindh. He also expressed that Sindh Government will be happy to extend help in terms of local and foreign training to the elite athletes who are best of the best.

The Chief Guest thanked Mr. Martin Dawson for gracing today’s event and expressed his best wishes for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games which, he said, were sure to be a great success. On this occasion the Queen’s Baton was handed over to CM Sindh by President CGA Pakistan. The Chief Guest further handed over Queen’s Baton to the Commissioner Karachi. The Baton further moved to Olympians, World Champions, Commonwealth Games Medallists. Para athletes also shared / exchanged the Baton.

The next event of the Queen’s Baton Relay will be held in the forenoon of 29 December, 2021 at Karachi Grammar School. In the afternoon, the Baton will move to Moulana Muhammad Ali Johar Park, Kakri Ground, Lyari where it will be shared among sports legends, dignitaries, national and international athletes, the community and its youth.
