The School of Health Sciences Freshmen Orientation Program and Welcome Dinner 

Lahore, November 15, 2021 (PPI-OT):UMT Orientation Committee in collaboration with PRS-ORG is going to organize the Freshmen Orientation and Welcome Dinner for Fall 2021 participants of School of Health Sciences. The freshmen orientation program is a powerful way to build trust, a feeling of belonging, and connection between participants, faculty, staff and will serve as breakthrough cultural, social, and other barriers, as we share food and stories.

The program agenda includes welcoming of the participants, introduction and description of the school and the programs, recitation of the Holy Quran, National anthem, motivational talks as well as display of stalls by Office of Participant Affairs (OPA).

Classes of the School of Health Sciences will commence from November 16, 2021.

Sindh Assembly takes up question hour, leaves rest of agenda unaddressed 

Islamabad, November 15, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Sindh Assembly left its entire agenda unaddressed except question hour on Monday, observes Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) in Daily Factsheet.

Following are key observations of the House proceedings during the first sitting of 24th session:

Members’ Participation

The House met for two hours and 35 minutes; however, the proceeding remained suspended for 15 minutes due to prayer break.

The sitting started at 03:15 pm against the scheduled time of 02:00 pm.

The deputy speaker presided over the entire proceedings in the absence of speaker.

The leader of the House (chief minister) did not attend the sitting.

The opposition leader was present for an hour and 40 minutes.

As many as 44 MPAs (26 percent) were present at the outset and 56 (33 percent) at the adjournment of the sitting.

The parliamentary leaders of PPPP, GDA, PTI, TLP and MMAP attended the proceedings.

Eight out of nine minority lawmakers attended the proceedings.

Output

The House did not consider report of the standing committee on food on the Sindh Food Fortification Bill, 2020.

Representation and Responsiveness

The House took up three out of nine starred questions while lawmakers asked 21 supplementary questions.

Five calling attention notices, a privilege motion and an adjournment motion on the agenda remained unaddressed.

Order and Institutionalization

The House was adjourned to meet again on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at 10:00 am.

Transparency

‘Orders of the Day’ was available to the legislators, observers and public.

The attendance of lawmakers was not available to the media and observers.

Senate adopts four resolutions, refers seven bills to committees

Islamabad, November 15, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Senate adopted four resolutions and referred seven private members’ bills to the relevant committees for consideration, observes Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) in the Daily Factsheet on Monday.

Following are key observations of the proceedings during the fifth sitting of 315th session:

Members’ Participation

The Senate met for three hours and 27 minutes.

The sitting started at the scheduled time of 05:00 pm.

The chairman presided over the entire proceedings.

The deputy chairman was also present.

The leader of the house attended the entire sitting.

The leader of the opposition attended the sitting for three hours and six minutes.

As many as 28 lawmakers (28%) were present at the outset and 18 (18%) at the adjournment of sitting.

The parliamentary leaders of PPPP, PML-N, JI, PML, PkMAP, BAP, PTI, PML-F and JUI-F attended the sitting.

Three minority lawmaker were present.

Output

Moved by a PTI lawmaker, the House passed the Factories (Amendment) Bill, 2021.

The House witnessed introduction of seven private members’ bills which were referred to the relevant committees for consideration. These bills were the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) (Amendment) Bill, 2021; the State Bank of Pakistan (Amendment) Bill, 2021; the Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2021] (Amendment of Article 37); the Islamabad Capital Territory Waqf Properties (Amendment) Bill, 2021; the Protection of Journalist Bill, 2021; the Provincial Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2021 and the Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2021] (Amendment of Articles 111, 140, 260 and 275).

Seven bills on the agenda were deferred while a bill – the Regulation of Generation, Transmission and Distribution of Electric Power (Amendment) Bill, 2021 – was dropped due to absence of relevant lawmakers.

Moved by an Independent lawmaker, the House passed a motion to withdraw the Federal Board of Revenue (Amendment) Bill, 2020.

The House adopted four private members’ resolution recommending the government to name ‘Chand Tara Chowk’ near Shakarparian Islamabad as Wing Commander `Nauman Akram Shaeed Chowk’, take immediate measures to reduce the level of air pollution, establish a University of Science and Technology in the name of Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan and include his life and struggles of in the national educational curriculum and ensure recitation of the Holy Quran with Urdu translation and Darood Sharif at the commencement of every public meeting.

A resolution on the agenda was deferred as the Chair directed the mover to redraft it.

Representation and Responsiveness

Seven lawmakers participated in debate on a motion under rule 218 about pendency of cases with Supreme Court and Islamabad High Court as of July 31, 2021 and policy steps being taken by the Government to ensure their early and speedy disposal. The debate on this continued for an hour and 12 minutes while four other motions under rule 218 were deferred.

The House passed a motion to refer the Provincial Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2020 to the joint sitting of the parliament.

Seven lawmakers spoke on points of public importance for 34 minutes.

Order and Institutionalization

The opposition walked out from the House for 13 minutes against political victimization of their leadership.

A PML-N lawmaker pointed out the quorum at 05:19 pm but it was found complete upon counting.

The House was adjourned to meet again on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at 11:00 am.

Capital University Holds Convocation 2020 

Islamabad, November 15, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Convocation-2020 of Capital University of Science and Technology (CUST) was held on Saturday, the 13th of November, 2021 in the CUST Campus Islamabad wherein 993 graduates including BBA, MBA, BS, MS and PhD in the fields of Management Sciences, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Engineering Management, Project Management, Computer Science, Bioinformatics and Biosciences were awarded degrees.

Prof. Dr. M. Mansoor Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor Capital University of Science and Technology, presided over the Convocation. In his inaugural speech, he welcomed the graduating students for their presence in this memorable and happy occasion and declared this event as a significant milestone in their lives. He congratulated the graduates and highlighted the contribution made by the University in the field of higher education.

He hoped that the graduates will contribute towards the scientific and technological development of the country through their ability, dignity, determination and commitment. Dr. Mansoor said education plays a vital role in the economic development of a country. It raises the productivity and efficiency of individuals and thus produces skilled manpower that is capable of leading the economy towards the path of sustainable economic development.

He informed that the University has earned a prominent position amongst its competitors by putting high emphasis on R and D activities and its graduate programs. Ms. Syeda Eeman Zahra Bokhari, a graduate of BS Biosciences, shared her views as a student of this University with audience. She on behalf of graduating students, thanked the management, faculty and the administration for providing congenial teaching and learning environment and guidance. She further wished all the graduating students success for all their personal and professional future endeavours, while reminiscing various memories of their university life.

In this Convocation 28 graduates awarded PhD degrees; including 12 in the field of Management Sciences, 6 in the field of Engineering, 04 in the field of Computing, 01 in the field of Bioinformatics and 05 in the field of Mathematics.

PhD graduates who received PhD degrees includes; Syed Ali Abdullah Mehboob, Muhammad Bilal Saeed, Muhammad Imtiaz Haider, Qlander Hayat, Ali Haider, Nida Abbas, Mushtaq Hussain Khan, Imran Yousaf in the field of Management Sciences; Ibrar Ullah, Mirza Muhammad Yasir Masood, Muhammad Rizwan Azam, Raheel Anjum in the field of Electrical Engineering; Mohibullah, Rafi Ullah Khan, Altaf Hussain in Computer Science; Sajid Shah, Abid Kamran, Wasim Jamshed, Shahzada Muhammad Atif in Mathematics and Muhammad Tahir Khan in the field of Bioinformatics.

The Capital University of Science and Technology recognizes the outstanding performance of its graduates by awarding Academic Excellence Medals. In this Convocation, 61 medals which include; 33 Gold, 15 Silver and 13 Bronze medals have been awarded to the graduates who stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd in their respective degree programs. The ‘Jinnah Gold Medal’ was also awarded to an overall best graduate of the Convocation Ms. Aiman Arshad of the Management Science department, on his overall distinguished performance in curricular and extracurricular activities.

Chairman PPP and Mian Shahbaz Sharif discuss matters of common and national interests 

Karachi, November 15, 2021 (PPI-OT):Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Mian Shahbaz Sharif telephoned the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and discussed about the Parliamentary issues and matters of common and national interests. The Chairman PPP and the Leader of the Opposition Shahbaz Sharif also talked about joint session of the NA and move-forward strategy of the parties of united opposition.

During the telephonic discussion, Chairman PPP told him that the anti-people policies of the incumbent selected PTI-led federal government were reversed through the Parliament which is the apex democratic forum. Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said further that the Parliament is the only democratic forum for the elected representatives to legislate on people-friendly policies and laws as they uphold the interest of the common man there.

He told the Leader of the Opposition Shahbaz Sharif that the parties of opposition had in recent past successfully compelled the selected PTI-led government to surrender and retreat on several occasions and that success was because of the unity of parties of opposition.
