The IUB Syndicate Meeting 

Bahawalpur, August 05, 2021 (PPI-OT):The syndicate of Islamia University Bahawalpur has approved a budget of Rs 7204.425 million for the financial year 2021-22 and a record development budget of Rs 3572.060 million. A meeting of the Syndicate was held under the chairmanship of Engineer Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob, Vice Chancellor was held at Abbasia Campus.

The meeting approved the establishment of the National Cotton Breeding Institute. The members of the syndicate also approved the setting up of a sub-campus of Islamia University Bahawalpur in Liaquatpur. The meeting also discussed the Higher Education Commission’s policy on plagiarism, new rules of the Sports Tournament Committee, Performance Appraisal form, performance-based increments and promotions for tenured faculty members, research assistants, human resources and other legal, administrative and financial matters.

Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob Completed 2 Years at IUB 

Bahawalpur, August 05, 2021 (PPI-OT):Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob completed 2 years of assuming the responsibilities of Vice Chancellor of Islamia University of Bahawalpur Yesterday. In these two years, the university has made remarkable progress in every field, an example of which is hard to find in the past. When he took over charge two years ago, the situation at the university was dire. The number of students was only 13,000 and running the university financially had become a major challenge. Due to administrative skills and decision-making power of Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob, the University has overcome all difficulties in just 2 years and embarked on a new journey of development and prosperity as a global university.

And to make it active, it has been divided into 14 faculties and the number of departments has increased from 48 to 129. The number of undergraduate, master’s, M.Phil and Ph.D level admissions for thousands of first class qualified students in South Punjab and across the country has been increased to 42,000. Due to a well-organized and transparent admission policy, Islamia University of Bahawalpur has become an excellent educational destination for local and non-local youth. The number of faculty also increased and the number of professors increased from 18 to 43. Similarly, instead of more than one thousand part-time faculty, associate lecturers will be appointed.

Overall, the number of faculty increased from 550 to over 1000. In the field of administration also new, posts were created according to the increasing volume of the university on which appointments were made under the selection board. After a long period of ten years, regular appointment of Registrar and Controller of Examinations took place. When Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob took over the responsibilities, the budget of the university was Rs. 3.8 billion which has increased to Rs. 7.2 billion today.

Similarly, the development budget has increased from Rs 0.9 billion to Rs 3.5 billion. The total budget of the university has exceeded Rs. 10 billion which is a record. In terms of development projects, for the first time in the history of the university, the government approved a mega development project of more than Rs. 4 billion, which includes the establishment of a campus at Ahmadpur East. New teaching blocks were activated for the Faculty of Management Sciences and the College of Nursing. 4 new hostels for 1000 students became operational.

More than 22 new buses joined the University fleet, launching a special bus service for students from towns 60 km away. This facility saves hostel expenses especially for female students and they reach home in the evening after a comfortable and safe journey. The University has shown exceptional performance in the field of research. For this purpose, the University has allocated Rs. 100 million from its own resources. Marketing of cotton seeds generates an annual income of Rs. 100 million.

In addition, all kinds of flowers, vegetables and fruits will be available for domestic and foreign markets due to the Cut Flower, Vegetable and Fruit Center. The university has launched a new testing service which will generate crores of rupees in revenue. For the first time, the university appeared on the global horizon and became one of the top 500 universities in Asia according to the Time Higher Education rankings. More than 19 societies were established for students. The first literary and cultural festival in the history of South Punjab began and the Khawaja Ghulam Fareed Conference was held.

Similarly, in order to put into practice the penmanship of local poets and writers, the University published and unveiled their books. Khawaja Ghulam Fareed and Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Chair Management Committees were formed. During Covid-19, Islamia University of Bahawalpur emerged as an active university where educational activities continued uninterrupted physically and online and a lot of work was done in community service. A Directorate was set up to promote the tourism sector and the Cholistan Jeep Rally and Bahawalpur Trade Fair were launched.

The university arranged training for more than 300 journalists from Bahawalpur, Lodhran and Rahim Yar Khan. Promoting relations with Chinese and Egyptian universities, the CPEC project included the intercrop corn and soybean project of Sichuan and the Islamic University. 20 students of the university will go to China every year to do PhD. Punjab government’s 2.5 MW solar power project has been completed and chip design center is being set up.

The federal government has established a successful youth center at the university. Similarly, a major IT Markaz and e-Rozgar Markaz was possible. Special attention was paid to the health sector and more than 22,000 students were vaccinated against hepatitis. Hepatitis and Covid-19 vaccination centers were established at the university. Increased sports facilities include construction of indoor sports facilities gym and new cricket stadium.

IUB organized a Tour of Historical Places of Bahawalpur 

Bahawalpur, August 05, 2021 (PPI-OT):Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur organized a tour of historical places of Bahawalpur. On the directions of Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur is also promoting the government’s tourism policy and activities in the country. In this regard the teaching department of Tourism and Hospitality Management and IUB-Directorate of sustainable Tourism have been setup in the University. Dr. Shoaib Imtiaz and Ms. Kulsoom Akhtar were in charge of this tour.

The delegation on the occasion of their visit to Central Library Bahawalpur said that the historical buildings of Bahawalpur are very important in terms of tourism and they will be introduced all over the world. Following the lockdown of Covid-19 and the success of the vaccine, tourism activities in the country are now reviving. There is a need to give the tourism sector the status of a major industry in Pakistan, which will also create thousands of jobs.

The Islamia University of Bahawalpur is conducting tourism activities in association with Bahawalpur Tourism Development Corporation. For this purpose, students and faculty participated in the Bahawalpur Desert Jeep Rally and Honourable Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar attended the Bahawalpur Trade Fair and appreciated the efforts of Bahawalpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Islamia University of Bahawalpur to promote tourism.

SBP and Directorate General of Sports Punjab and Youth Affairs officers, staffers observe Black Day to express solidarity with the Kashmiris 

Lahore, August 05, 2021 (PPI-OT):The officers and employees of Sports Board Punjab and Directorate of Sports Punjab observed Black Day on August 5, Thursday to express solidarity with the Kashmiris. On this occasion, Sports Board Punjab, under the directives of Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh, took out a rally in Nishtar Park Sports Complex under the leadership of Director Sports Hafeez Bhatti to express solidarity with the people of Indian Occupied Kashmir.

Director Sports Hafeez Bhatti, Deputy Director Chand Perveen, Assistant Directors Rehmatullah, M Bilal and Raees ur Rehman, NPSC Gymnasium Hall Administrator Mustafa Shah, Tariq Wattoo, Zahoor Ahmed, Malik Nasir and a large number of SBP employees participated in the rally.

All the SBP staffers wore black armbands to protest against grave human rights violations in the Indian-held Kashmir. They also chanted slogans against Modi govt’s unlawful and unconstitutional measure of August 5, 2019. They also chanted anti-India and pro-Kashmir and Pakistan slogans on this occasion.

The participants of the protest procession also observed one-minute silence to express harmony with Kashmiri people. Special prayers were also offered for the departed souls of martyrs and freedom of Kashmir from Indian stranglehold. The protestors also chanted slogans against India’s unconstitutional measure of removing Kashmir’s special status. They also showed their anger on the cruelties of Indian forces against innocent Kashmiri people.

Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh in a statement on Thursday, said: “We strongly rejected Modi govt’s unlawful and unconstitutional measure of August 5, 2019. Indian forces have been committing massive human rights abuses in the Jammu and Kashmir state for a long time and the world community must take urgent notice of this highly inhuman attitude”.

Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh said Pakistanis have close relations with the Kashmiri people who are subjected to the worst atrocities at the hands of Indian forces. “We will continue to extend every kind of support to them. We should underline the Kashmir issue and India’s atrocities at every platform”, he urged.

Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh said that the Kashmir issue must be resolved as per UNO resolutions and according to the wishes of Kashmiri people. Director Sports Hafeez Bhatti said the entire Pakistan nation is with Kashmiris in this testing time. “Kashmiri people have been fighting and giving great sacrifices for freedom for the last seven decades. The inhuman Indian atrocities have failed to lessen Kashmiris’ passion and enthusiasm for freedom”.

EMC of IUB Met with Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob 

Bahawalpur, August 05, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Environment Management Committee (EMC) of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur led by Director, Dr. Abid Rashid Gill, met with the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob to present the First Sustainability Report of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. The first sustainability report exhibits the vision of the Vice Chancellor to ensure environmental sustainability in the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. It identifies different facets of campus sustainability and their respective baseline estimates for all three campuses of the University. The report also highlights the importance of sustainability measures planned to be undertaken for long term environmental sustainability.

The Vice Chancellor read the report thoroughly and asked pertinent questions about the committee’s plans to enhance awareness about campus sustainability. He also emphasized the importance of measures to warrant a sustainable curriculum at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The Vice Chancellor advised the committee to be part of the orientation session of new students scheduled to be conducted by the Executive Training Centre and advise them on campus sustainability.

The First Sustainability Report of IUB is scheduled to be made public on the University website by August 2021. Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti, Vice-Chairman Sports Board Punjab Rao Zahid Qayyum plant saplings on the lawns of National Hockey Stadium 

Lahore, August 05, 2021 (PPI-OT):Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti, Vice-Chairman Sports Board Punjab Rao Zahid Qayyum and Director Admin Javed Chohan planted saplings as part of Prime Minister’s ‘Clean and Green Pakistan’ campaign on the lawns of National Hockey Stadium on Thursday.

Director Admin Javed Chohan, Parliamentary Secretary Sonia Shah, Director Sports Hafeez Bhatti, Divisional Sports Officer Lahore Nadeem Qaiser, DSO Lahore Tanvir Shah, Malik Nasir, Nabeel Akram, APCA Directorate General of Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab Unit President Fiaz Ali and other officials were also present on this occasion.

Talking to media on this occasion, Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti said after completing a successful plantation campaign in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Prime Minister Imran Khan launched a tree plantation campaign at a bigger level. “The practice of tree plantation is not only highly beneficial in regard to healthy climate but for the future generations as well. We are planning to plant 30,000 saplings under a pilot project in Punjab”.

Answering a question regarding javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem’s magnificent performance in Olympic qualifying round, Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti said Arshad offered excellent performance in Olympic qualifying round and topped his group and now the entire nation is praying for his medal winning performance in the final round of Tokyo Olympics javelin throw event. “We extended every kind of facilities and cooperation to both Arshad Nadeem and weightlifter Talha Talib for the preparation of their respective Olympic Games events”.

Responding to another question regarding India’s illogical intervention in Kashmir Premier League, Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti said: “We highly condemned India’s anti-sports and negative tactics. India always tried to harm Pakistan on all fronts including sports. We are quite confident to hold the Kashmir Premier League quite successfully despite India’s negative tactics”.
