University of Education, distributed scholarships to its students of more than 150 million rupees during 2020-21

Lahore, July 01, 2021 (PPI-OT):The University of Education, Lahore, which has a unique position in the field of providing quality education and training to students and teachers, has provided scholarships and laptops worth more than 150 million of rupees to its students through various scholarships on merit till the end of the financial year 2020-21. These scholarships issued by the Financial Aid Office of the University were obtained from various internal and external sources to facilitate the poor and meritorious students.

According to the details, HEC Need Base Scholarship has been provided to 277 children of the University for Rs. 23,000,000, Ehsaas Undergraduate Scholarship Project (Phase 1 Second Installment) to 1526 children for Rs. 96,585,255, 31 children were given 1,333,000 under Prime Minister’s Fee Reimbursement Scheme, 8 children were given scholarship under Rehmat-ul-Ulameen Scholarship, Rs. 30,000,000 were given to 1860 children under the UE merit based scholarship, 12 children were given scholarship under Punjab Educational Endowment Fund Scholarship, 4 were given Rs. 355,000 under Scottish Scholarship, 9 from Bait-ul-Mal. Scholarships of Rs. 160,490 and Diya Scholarships of Rs. 24,200 were given to 2 students. Apart from these, 42 laptops were also given under the Prime Minister’s National Laptop Scheme for special children.

In this regard, the Vice Chancellor, University of Education, Prof. Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha (S.I.) said that universities have always been the center of intellectual activities and encouraging deserving students. He asked the students who benefited from the scholarships to pay special attention to their education and other co-curricular activities to achieve their goals. He said only those nations can compete with others who believe in knowledge based economy.

Research Seminar – II from Department of Management Sciences

Karachi, July 01, 2021 (PPI-OT):DHA Suffa University hosted its ‘Research Seminar – II’ from the Department of Management Sciences. The event took place on Tuesday, 29th June 2021 at Executive Lecture Theatre (ELT), DHA Suffa University, Karachi, Pakistan. The 32 groups of undergraduate and postgraduate students presented their researches in the following domains: Finance, Marketing, Supply Chain Management and Human Resource Management. The aim of this event was to build and showcase students’ research and presentation ability which are an important academic skills to possess.

The idea behind this seminar was to empower and enable a research approach in students with shared knowledge and activity-based learning on various research-related topics. This seminar expects to provide the participants a platform to present research approaches with transformational perspectives to business challenges and opportunities.

The opening address was presented by Dr. Sobia Iqbal and Ms. Aisha Shams. A positive welcoming note and remarks were given by the Dean of the Institution, Dr. Johar Farooqi. Furthermore, welcome note and positive remarks were also expressed by Dr. Ahmed Saeed Minhas, Pro Vice Chancellor and Dr. Faheem Akhter, HoD Management Sciences at DHA Suffa University. The esteemed experienced guests presented for research evaluation were Dr. Muhammad Irfan Khan, Dr. Shamaila Burney and Dr. Adnan Butt brought the experience of academia. Furthermore, experienced guests Mr. Mustafa Yousuf and Mr. Muhammed Murad Alam helped bring the industry experience to the table. The research aimed to help students better understand and bridge the gap between the research and practical industry domains and fields.

PCB congratulates Nida Dar on completing century of T20I wickets

Saint John’s, July 01, 2021 (PPI-OT):Pakistan Cricket Board has congratulated Nida Dar on becoming the first Pakistan bowler – across men’s and women’s game – to take 100 T20I wickets. Nida achieved the feat on Wednesday in the first of the three T20Is between Pakistan Women and West Indies Women when she dismissed Deandra Dottin in the 10th over of the first innings.

The off-spinner is only fifth bowler in the women’s game to join the 100-T20I wickets club. PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan: “I congratulate Nida Dar on becoming the first-ever Pakistan bowler to record a century of wickets in T20Is.

“This is no mean achievement and is a testimony of the hard work and dedication Nida has put in over the years. Over the last decade, Nida has prospered into an integral part of the national women’s team and has become an inspiration for the next generation of women cricketers.

“It is a great moment not only for her but the whole nation as she is also the first Asian woman bowler to record this landmark. Nida is an icon and inspiration to millions of young girls who are passionate about cricket and follow the game.

“In a day and age when women’s cricket is flourishing and its fan base is increasing day-by-day, role models like her would do well in taking the women’s game to the corners of the earth.”

The other four women bowlers to have crossed the 100-wicket mark in the format are Anisa Mohammed (120), Ellyse Perry (115), Shabnum Ismail (110) and Anya Shrubsole (102). From the Asian teams, India’s Poonam Yadav, with 95 wickets, follows Nida in the list of highest T20I wicket-takers.

Amongst the women bowlers from Pakistan, former captain Sana Mir, who retired from cricket in 2020, has the second most wickets with 89 scalps at 23.42, while Sadia Yousuf, who took 57 wickets in a career which spanned from 2010 till 2017, and Anam Amin (54 wickets at 20.22) are the other two bowlers with more than 50 T20I wickets. Amongst men cricketers from Pakistan, legendary former all-rounder Shahid Afridi leads the charts with 97 T20I wickets.

UET Syndicate recommends Rs 5,206.040 Million budget

Lahore, July 01, 2021 (PPI-OT):University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore syndicate meeting, presided over by the worthy Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar, has approved Rs. 5,206.040 million budget with deficit of Rs. 639.537 million for the year 2021-22. Chairing the 5/2021 syndicate meeting, Vice Chancellor UET Lahore Prof. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar briefed regarding budget item-wise. The treasure UET further explained that a sum of Rs. 450 million was allocated for Development Projects. It includes Rs. 400 million for Innovation Centre and Innovation Park at UET Lahore sub campus and Rs. 50 million for strengthening of Computer Science/Engineering Departments at UET Lahore.

In order to facilitate the students, UET approved recommendations of Academic Council regarding amendments in undergraduate and postgraduate regulations related to admissions, fees, and migration. The Syndicate also approved to waive off recurring fee from PhD students from Entry 2021. In lieu of that, PhD students will be required to work for at least six hours per week. They will also be eligible for Teaching Fellowship with stipend if secure CGPA 3.5 out of 4.00. The budget 2021-22 also includes increase in salaries, and pensions with 10% adhoc relief allowance and 25% Disparity Reduction Allowance for all scales from BPS-1 and onward. It was further explained that deficit will be met by generating more income from its own sources. In the meeting many other academic matters were discussed, and the recommendation of Academic Council and Selection Board were approved.

QEC Holds a Capacity Building Session on Quality Bench-marking in Higher Education Institutions for Academic Excellence

Islamabad, July 01, 2021 (PPI-OT):Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) at Capital University of Science and Technology (CUST) organized a capacity building session on “Quality Benchmarking in Higher Education Institutions for Academic Excellence” on Friday June 25, 2021. The Resource Person of the session was Dr. Farrukh Idress, Director Quality Enhancement Cell, Rawalpindi Medical University. Dr. Idrees is a Chartered Quality Professional, Quality Management Consultant and Certified Six Sigma Black Belt. Participants of the session included all Deans, Head of Departments, Quality Assurance Committee members and members from administrative staff.

The session started with Tilawat, after which the worthy Vice Chancellor, Dr. Muhammad Mansoor Ahmed was invited to share his thoughts. The Vice Chancellor shared the quality standards being followed at CUT. He also shed light on the importance of Benchmarking in Higher Education. After the talk of worthy Vice Chancellor. The resource person Dr. Farrukh Idress was invited to talk on Quality Benchmarking in Higher Education Institutions for Academic Excellence.

The resource person shared the basic concept of adopting Benchmarking in higher education institutions, with the attendees. He explained different types of Benchmarking and their ole in academic excellence. He also shared his personal experiences of implementing Benchmarking as a head of QEC in various institutions. The participants actively interacted during the session, they showed their interest in the topic.

At the end of the training session, Director QEC, Mr. Fida Hussain was invited to share his thoughts, where he briefed the audience about the initiatives taken by Quality Enhancement Cell and CUST Training Centre regarding capacity building of CUST teaching and administrative staff. He expressed his gratitude for the resource person and appreciated all the respected participants for their interest which they showed during the session.
