Karachi: WWF-Pakistan has introduced an innovative initiative targeting the nation’s escalating climate challenges by mobilizing its youthful demographic. The Nature Clubs for Youth (NC4Y) programme, in collaboration with the Avery Dennison Foundation, aims to empower young Pakistanis to devise practical solutions to the environmental problems threatening their communities.
According to WWF-Pakistan, the initiative is being piloted in 15 educational institutions across Taunsa, Skardu, Gilgit, Hyderabad, and Nathiagali, reaching approximately 1,000 participants aged 15 to 22. The program offers hands-on workshops designed to foster skills in project design, leadership, and sustainable business practices. Through activities such as Eco Leaders of Tomorrow and Green Entrepreneurship Skills, the initiative intends to translate environmental awareness into actionable projects.
At least five youth-led projects will be selected to receive mentorship and seed funding, enabling participants to address critical issues like waste mismanagement, water conservation, and ecosystem restoration. Taseer Ali Mirza, Head of Corporate Engagement and Environmental Education at WWF-Pakistan, emphasized the role of youth as current changemakers, stating, "This initiative is about turning awareness into action, giving youth the tools and opportunities to build solutions that are both environmentally sustainable and economically viable."
The program plans to culminate in a national showcase in 2026, where select projects will be presented to experts and investors. By fostering youth-led innovation, WWF-Pakistan underscores its dedication to transforming local ideas into scalable solutions, enhancing the nation's capability to address its environmental challenges.
