Faisalabad, The National Textile University (NTU) in Faisalabad successfully hosted the 3rd International Conference on Knowledge-Based Textiles, bringing together over 30 international speakers from diverse countries. Held on March 5th, this conference aimed at driving innovation and sustainability in the textile industry, positioning Pakistan to take a lead in the global textile market.
According to National Textile University, the conference was marked by the presence of distinguished guests and speakers from the USA, UK, Indonesia, China, Qatar, Spain, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Uganda, Kenya, Egypt, Estonia, and Malaysia. Conference Secretary, Dr. Muzammil Hussain, opened the event with a welcoming note, emphasizing the conference’s pivotal role in diversifying the market through product innovation and sustainable growth.
The initiative, funded by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan under the Grand Challenge Fund Project (KnowTex), showcased more than 30 ready-to-market and scalable products. These innovations include banana fabric, sisal fiber apparel, and multifunctional yarns, demonstrating NTU’s commitment to merging academic research with industry needs. Conference Chair, Prof. Dr. Yasir Nawab, highlighted NTU’s unique position due to its industrial collaborations and launched a skilled efficiency proficiency program aimed at training industry professionals.
Keynote speakers and participants underscored the necessity of collaborative partnerships, technological upgrades, and sustainable policies for the advancement of Pakistan’s textile sector. Islamabad, Bahria University Health Sciences Campus Islamabad (BUHSCI) has opened an invitation for bids for the procurement of refurbished branded HP/Dell/Equivalent laptop and desktop computers. This initiative aims to enhance the technological resources of the university, ensuring students and faculty have access to quality computing equipment for educational purposes.
According to Bahria University, the request for bids targets GST registered firms and suppliers to provide a total of 65 Category-A laptops and 91 HP ProDesk System-Towers or equivalent desktop computers. Each laptop is expected to feature an Intel Core i5, 8th Generation processor, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 512GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD, and a 15.6″ full HD display, among other specifications. Desktop computers will have similar processing capabilities and are required to come with additional accessories such as HDMI cables and LED monitors.
Bidding documents detail the specifications and scope of work and are available for purchase at the Bahria University Head Office upon payment of a non-refundable fee. The university has adopted a single-stage, two-envelope bidding procedure in compliance with PPRA Rules 2004, with bids to be submitted by March 25, 2024.
Technical bids will be opened in the presence of bidders or their authorized representatives, emphasizing transparency in the selection process. Bahria University also noted that a 2% bid security of the total bid value must accompany bids to ensure commitment from participating firms.
