UVAS Highlights Stray Animal Population Control on World Spay Day

Lahore, The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore commemorated World Spay Day with a focus on raising awareness about humane methods of controlling the stray dog population, including surgical spaying (neutering) and the use of chemical methods (zeutering). The event aimed to educate the public on responsible and compassionate animal population management.

According to University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, the observance featured a walk led by Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf, Chairman of the Department of Parasitology, with significant participation from Emeritus Prof Dr Masood Rabbani, Prof Dr Aneela Zameer Durrani, Registrar Sajjad Hyder, alongside a considerable number of students, faculty members, and staff. The Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) was also represented, underscoring the collaborative effort towards animal welfare.

The initiative sought to enlighten the community about alternative approaches to controlling stray animal populations, advocating for methods that do not involve harming animals. Emphasizing the importance of surgical and chemical sterilization techniques, the event was a call to action for more humane and effective strategies in managing the numbers of stray dogs and cats. This approach not only aims to reduce the stray animal population but also promotes a safer and healthier environment for both animals and the community.
