Turbat, Assistant Professor Mr. Mazhar Mohsin from the Department of Computer Science at the University of Turbat (UoT) has accomplished a significant milestone. He has successfully defended his PhD thesis at the University of Eastern Finland, focusing on innovative AI solutions for industrial challenges, a feat that’s drawing attention across Europe.
According to a news release by the University of Turbat, Mr. Mohsin’s research is titled “Deep Learning-Based Real-Time Defect Detection, Classification, and Segmentation Methods for Industrial Quality Control” and includes four research articles. His journey during the PhD saw him joining forces on multiple European Union research projects, notably the European Digital Innovation Hub and EIT Digital.
One of Mr. Mohsin’s standout contributions was the development of a machine vision-based intelligent application designed for forest harvesters. This application possesses the capability of real-time detection, segmentation, and measurement of wood logs. His pioneering work in this area resulted in the approval and subsequent online publication of two patents. Not just limited to academic realms, his innovations have been recognized with financial support and scholarships from the European Union. Due to the significant potential of his findings, several major corporations, both in Finland and across Europe, are keen on teaming up with Mr. Mohsin’s research group to enhance their product development based on his inventions.
Mr. Mazhar Mohsin’s achievements have not gone unnoticed in his home country. Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Turbat, expressed his profound congratulations.
