Unveiling unity government’s policy of reforms then elections, Chairman PPP stresses investigations against those who violated, undermined and abrogated the Constitution

Karachi, April 26, 2022 (PPI-OT):Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that all partners of the unity government will have to play their cooperative role for the solution of the problems being faced by the country. He impulsed that there should be reforms first, then general elections be held in the country.

Addressing a press conference at Bilawal House after the hybrid meeting of the party’s Central Executive Committee, Chairman PPP said that the meeting had condemned the terrorist attack on Chinese in Karachi. He said that the said incident was an attack on the federation of Pakistan and it is also an attack on the rights and development of Balochistan’s people. “We know that some Baloch youth are angry, but we will not allow any terrorist to carry out his agenda and harm the Baloch brothers and sisters,” he added.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that a new era of development has begun in Pakistan, and his party believes that the solution to all the problems of Pakistan lies in democracy. He extended felicitation to the nation on the behalf of his party’s Central Executive Committee, saying that the selected system in the country has been abolished. He further said that the peaceful struggle of the people against the selected system has resulted in a unique history as a no-confidence motion was moved which resulted in success. The man who was imposed on the nation undemocratically, was sent home because of a democratic weapon.” It is a historic political achievement and a political miracle”, he added.

Chairman PPP said that since the constitution has been torn and broken as a piece of paper, adding, if such matters are ignored, then someone else will do the same in future. He pointed out that it should not be forgotten that Imran Khan and his co-accused have violated the Constitution on April 9, 2022, adding that former Deputy Speaker, sitting President and former Prime Minister are involved in this violation, undermining and abbrogation of the Constitution. He demanded that an investigation into the matter should be launched as it was an attack on the constitution, parliament and democracy. “These facts should be brought before the public as to what happened in the darkness of night during this period’, he demanded.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that Imran Khan’s politics is based on lies and propaganda. Khan’s current campaign is ‘mujhy kun bachaya’. He said that Khan is now targeting every institution that he thinks should have been come to his rescue even if they had to take unconstitutional or illegal actions. He further said that in the past, due to one person and 2018 general elections, Parliament, Judiciary, Election Commission and Establishment had become controversial institutions.

“If it is decided that to transit from a controversial institution to a constitutional institution, then it is a welcome development,” he added. We have observed this in practice. He said that when the transition of moving from a controversial institution to a constitutional one is underway, it is the duty of not only the PPP but also of every Pakistani to expect this from our institutions. He further said that Imran Khan wanted to make all institutions Tiger Force, but that conspiracy has now failed. “Pakistan’s bright future is tied to this transition”, he added.

Talking about his recent meeting with Nawaz Sharif in London, Chairman PPP said the re-engagement between PPP and PML-N was in the interests of the country, nation and democracy. He said that the two parties would work to fullfill their incomplete mission, the Charter of Democracy (CoD). “We also have to work for a new CoD as we believe that all parties have to play their responsible role if the phase of “transition from controversial to constitutional” is to be completed. He urged that everyone have to get out of petty favours and have to give priority to the interests of the country and the nation.

Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the selected system has come to an end, but the damage that Imran Khan has done to the country in the last four years is still there, adding that this is need of the hour to work on a war footing to make up for this loss. He said that just as the new Charter of Democracy is necessary, so is electoral reforms, adding that they do not want a repeat of the 2018 elections. “In the past, it was said that first accountability, then elections, but we are of the opinion that first reforms, then elections,” he said.

PPP chairman said that he was going to Islamabad tomorrow (on Wednesday) and would take oath of the office and be part of the unity government in a bid to find a solution to the problems facing Pakistan. In response to a question, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the constitution has been violated in recent days, and it is necessary for the investigation to point out those who are involved in this, adding that the consensus decision of all the allies in this regard will be implemented. Replying to a question about the PPP-MQM agreement, he said his party wanted local bodies to be strengthened and it has signed the agreement in a good faith.

In response to a question regarding Imran Khan’s demand of formation of the Judicial Commission on so-called conspiracy, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that Khan Sahib is demanding such things now, but when he was in power he was pushing the matter into a different direction. He said that Imran Khan’s narrative is based on lies, and Khan’s dictation would not work. In response to another question, he said that while in power, Imran Khan lost local bodies as well as by-elections across the country, and thus PTI will also be defeated in the general elections, adding that Imran Khan will come to know what the truly free and fair elections are. He said that Khan Sahib should not panic, he should come to the parliament and play the role of opposition leader. Federal Minister Senator Sherry Rehman and Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon were also present.
