University of Sindh Promotes Student Creativity and Sustainability Initiatives

Jamshoro: The University of Sindh, Jamshoro, recently highlighted its commitment to fostering student creativity and sustainability during an art exhibition at its Institute of Art and Design. The event featured student artworks and initiated a significant solarization project on campus.

According to University of Sindh, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro and Deputy Commissioner Jamshoro Riaz Hussain Wasan were the notable attendees who expressed their support for the students’ creative efforts. The exhibition showcased paintings and photographs, reflecting the university’s focus on nurturing artistic talents along with academic pursuits.

The Vice-Chancellor announced additional support for the arts, including ten new scholarships funded through the Sindh government’s endowment, aimed specifically at students of the Institute of Art and Design. Furthermore, upgrades to the Benazir Art Gallery such as new air conditioners and a sound system were approved to enhance the venue’s infrastructure.

A significant development highlighted during the event was the solarization project approved by the Sindh government, which aims to complete within a year, reducing the university’s dependence on the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) and enabling financial savings.

Deputy Commissioner Riaz Hussain Wasan commended the strong linkages between academia and industry as essential for poverty reduction and economic development. He emphasized the importance of education beyond just degree acquisition, advocating for knowledge that contributes to a better global understanding and practical solutions to local problems.

In his commitment to environmental and educational advancement, Deputy Commissioner Wasan announced the donation of 1,000 saplings to initiate a plantation drive on campus, stressing the importance of research that addresses local challenges.

The event concluded with the planting of saplings by university officials and guests, symbolizing their dedication to both educational and environmental sustainability.
