Jamshoro, The University of Sindh commenced its two-day Annual Sports Gala at the Institute of English Language and Literature (IELL) on Tuesday, bringing together hundreds of students for a series of sports activities at the Hyder Bux Pavilion. The event, marked by enthusiasm and competitive spirit, saw participation from over 200 students across various sports including marathon, cricket, table tennis, badminton, chess, and tug of war.
According to University of Sindh, the gala was inaugurated in the presence of distinguished faculty and a large number of students, with Vice-Chancellor Professor (Meritorious) Dr. Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro serving as the chief guest. Other notable attendees included Dean Faculty of Arts Prof. Dr. Muhammad Khan Sangi, Director IELL Prof. Dr. Abdul Fattah Soomro, and several professors and faculty members.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Kalhoro highlighted the pivotal role of sports in fostering societal development, maintaining physical and mental health, and promoting a sense of balance and sensibility in daily life. He underscored the importance of physical fitness in gaining a competitive edge and encouraged students to engage in sports activities to excel both academically and personally.
Dr. Kalhoro also emphasized the potential of the university’s youth as future leaders and stressed the significance of addressing their concerns. He urged teachers to instill values of faith, discipline, respect, and unity among students, preparing them to become valuable members of society. Furthermore, he encouraged students to foster coordination between their parents and teachers to enhance their educational journey.
Director IELL Dr. Abdul Fattah Soomro spoke on the necessity of engaging students in extracurricular activities alongside their academic development. He mentioned that sports play a crucial role in instilling enthusiasm, spirit, and discipline among students, which are essential for their overall development and contribution to the nation.
The sports gala featured spirited competitions in sprint races and tug-of-war, alongside cricket matches for both male and female students. The event is set to conclude on Wednesday evening with a ceremony to honor the winners and participants, celebrating their achievements and sportsmanship.
