Chitral, September 22, 2023 (PPI-OT): The University of Chitral, in collaboration with the Department of Botany and the Provincial Forest Department Lower Chitral, organized a remarkable Green Day celebration on September 21, 2023, aimed at promoting the importance of tree plantation with emphasis on its role in mitigating the negative impact of climate change.
The Green Day event, held on September 21, 2023, was graced by the presence of Prof. Dr. Zahir Shah, Vice Chancellor, University of Chitral, as Chief Guest. In his inspiring address, he stressed upon the importance of planting trees and cited references from the Holy Quran to emphasize the significance of this noble act.
Mr. Umair Nawaz, Sub Divisional Forest Officer, Drosh, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the diverse forest ecosystems in Chitral and highlighted the pivotal role played by the Forest Department in promoting and conserving these vital natural resources.
Mr. Muhammad Yousuf Farhad, Sub Divisional Forest Officer, Lower Chitral, drew attention to the critical role of forests in combatting global warming and their capacity to absorb carbon dioxide. He urged the students to become active agents of change in the fight against global warming through active participation in tree plantation initiatives.
The focal person of the event, Mr. Hafiz Ullah, lecturer in the Department of Botany, University of Chitral, warmly welcomed all the guests and participants, underscoring the university’s commitment to environmental sustainability and conservation efforts.
As a symbol of their commitment to the cause, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zahir Shah and officials from the Forest Department participated in a tree-planting ceremony on the university’s lawn. Additionally, they distributed plant saplings among faculty members and students, encouraging everyone to contribute to the greening of Chitral.
In recognition of the Forest Department’s invaluable partnership and unwavering support, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zahir Shah presented shields to Mr. Umair Nawaz and Mr. Yousaf Farhad as tokens of appreciation.
