Shifa wins Institute of Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) Cheers Award 2022

Islamabad, February 10, 2023 (PPI-OT):Department of Pharmacy Services, Shifa International Hospital won the Institute of Safe Medical Practices (ISMP) award in recognition of implementation of medication safety strategies. ISMP is the US-based world’s foremost non-profit organization educating the healthcare community and consumers about safe medication practices.

The ISMP Cheers Award honours individuals, organizations, and companies that have set a standard of excellence for others to follow in the prevention of medication errors and adverse drug events. Winners are recognized for their positive examples and/or teamwork through their implementation of medication safety strategies.

This year, the award has been granted to Shifa International Hospital for setting up ‘Camera Assisted Verification’ to ensure concurrent, in-process verification of Oncology admixture for the right medicine, right concentration, dose, and right diluent.

According to the Chief of Pharmacy. Ms. Salwa Ahsan, the tailor-made software for this process have a huge acquisition and maintenance cost which may not always be easy for resource-limited countries to consider. But Shifa pharmacy was able to run this process with local gadgets and software available in minimum operational cost. The system ensures that chemo preparation errors are checked and avoided.

SIH and NADRA inked an agreement

Islamabad, January 18, 2023 (PPI-OT):Shifa International Hospital and National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) inked an agreement on the provision of an identity verification solution that would authenticate the patients as well as donors of organ transplantation.

On the occasion Mr. Tariq Malik, NADRA chairman said that “NADRA has pivoted the ID ecosystem to introduce e-health initiatives, one of which is the current solution that will make the process of organ donation and transplant transparent and accountable. He added “We are confident that signing of this agreement under e-health initiatives will further open up the venues of collaboration with hospitals and medical institutions conducting organ transplantation nationwide.

Dr. Manzoor ul Haq Qazi, CEO of Shifa International Hospital, thanked NADRA for providing Shifa with its efficient and transparent Biometric Verification System. This system will speed up verification and registration for the transplantation of human cells, organs, and tissues, lessening the sufferings of the recipients and donors.

“He further said that “The miseries of patients that go through the procedure of organ and tissue transplantation can never be ignored. We have been welcoming such patients for a long but the regulatory processes involved in such procedures were lengthy and encouraged illegal trade in the sector. Under this collaboration, Shifa International Hospitals will be equipped with a 24/7 system through which identification and verification of donors and patients of organ transplants will be carried out through a hassle-free biometric verification system (BVS).

Shifa International Hospital inaugurated a new state-of-the-art Chemo Daycare Infusion Center and Medical Oncology Clinic

Islamabad, January 18, 2023 (PPI-OT):The new Chemo Daycare Center has a capacity of 30 suites for chemotherapy infusions. Chemo Daycare is staffed with trained and experienced doctors, Nurses, Pharmacists, and support staff. The treatment suites are built in an aesthetically appealing, naturally lit, and spacious area. The idea is to bring an upbeat vibe to those affected by this otherwise depressing, draining disease and give them Hope.

Shifa International Hospital has also expanded access to medical oncology services with the opening of another medical oncology clinic to increase the capacity of the hospital and meet the needs of the patients. This will provide comprehensive medical oncology care for solid tumours and hematological malignancies, including chemotherapy and autologous/allogenic Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT).

Shifa Clinical Research Center launches the first cancer registry report comprised of 2 years of Cancer data from 2018 to 2020

Islamabad, January 18, 2023 (PPI-OT):Dr. Muhammad Ayaz Mir, Director Clinical Research Center on the occasion of the report launching said that report compilation is a great achievement that shows the trends and the graphs worth a thousand words that are vital to planning and allocating resources.

He further said that 3 years of data of patients presenting to Shifa with ten prevailing forms of cancer is a platform that gives hope of collaborating regionally and contributing globally to an ever-growing body of evidence. Dr. Manzoor ul Haq Qazi, Chief executive officer, SIH appreciated the effort of the Shifa Clinical Research Center particularly Mr. Zafar Iqbal Tumor Registrar, and Sumaira Gulzar Assistant Registrar for compiling 3 years of cancer data in a form of a report.

Shifa International Hospital holds a grand opening ceremony to kick off Shifa Sports Gala 2022

Islamabad, January 18, 2023 (PPI-OT):The inauguration ceremony was attended by a large number of Shifa’s management, consultants, and staff members. Shifa Sports Gala, which will last more than two weeks, is the largest corporate sports event, with over 2500 employees participating in eight different games such as cricket, badminton, football, table tennis, volleyball, tug of war, carom, chess, and so on.

Mr. Asmatullah Junejo, Additional Director FIA, who was the opening ceremony’s chief guest, congratulated the Shifa family on organizing the sports gala. Shifa Management defeated Shifa Consultants in an opening cricket match.
