Jahangir Khan inaugurates IoBM Squash Court 

Karachi, April 26, 2022 (PPI-OT):Pakistan’s Squash legend and six-time World Open Champion, Jahangir Khan, inaugurated the newly renovated IoBM Squash Court. Present on the occasion were IoBM’s President Mr. Talib Karim, Ms. Sabina Mohsin, Executive Director along with Dean, HoDs, faculty, management, and students.

The Sports and Student Affairs Department played an instrumental role in the renovation of this squash court. Mr. Riaz Akbar Contractor, HoD of the Department, along with his personnel and the Maintenance team under the guidance of the management worked diligently to complete this project. IoBM has been hosting various sporting events and tournaments. The renovation of the squash court will allow IoBM’s squash team to play matches during in-house society events and also organize intervarsity squash tournaments.

IoBM Forms a Consortium for HEC Grant to Foster Innovation and Commercialization 

Karachi, April 25, 2022 (PPI-OT):IoBM forms a consortium with three universities to establish its Shahjehan Syed Karim Incubation Center (SSK-IC) with the Higher Education Commission. HEC Pakistan has focused on encouraging universities to raise their innovation and sustainability capacity through the ORIC offices of various institutes. IoBM is the only private sector university amongst the members to sign the agreement.

Other universities are Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (Jamshoro) the lead applicant, Dawood University of Engineering and Technology (Karachi), and Sindh Madressatul Islam University (Karachi). The consortium will be led by Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro (MUET). IoBM will mainly assist with the capacity building, training, and mentoring for startups across these as well as other institutions. The consortium allows the startups to share resources and information as well as talent to ensure that each university has the access and potential to support sustainable startups and better private and public opportunities.

The signing ceremony is the foundation for recognition of its Shahjehan S Karim Incubation Center (SSKIC) as an HEC-recognized incubation center for Innovation and Commercialisation. The signatories included Dr. Inamullah Bhatti, Director ORIC- MUET, Dr. Samra Javed, Director, ORIC-IoBM, Dr. Ghulam Mujtaba, Director ORIC-DUET and Dr. Aamir Iqbal, Director ORIC-SMIU as well as Mr. Burhan A Saiyed (Head of SSKIC) and Mr. Ali Jadoon (Manager, Research and Development, ORIC, IoBM).

Sanitary napkin vending machine installed at IoBM 

Karachi, April 19, 2022 (PPI-OT):Entrepreneurs have a knack for solving a problem by giving the best solution in the available resources. GoVendi is a FemTech Startup that is venturing to provide females access to feminine hygine products in public places. It recently installed a vending machine providing sanitary napkins at the Institute of Business Management (IoBM), Karachi. The initiative was taken by IoBM student, Taha Hissam Mirza. The female students at IoBM have welcomed this step for it has eased their challenges and concerns.

Abrar Ahmad Khan, IoBM alumnus, joins The Beaconhouse Group as Chief Marketing Officer 

Karachi, April 18, 2022 (PPI-OT):Abrar Ahmad Khan, IoBM alumnus, (MBA Class of 2000) has joined the Beaconhouse Group as their Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). He will be heading the Marketing, Communications, and Brand teams for the Group. Previously, Abrar served as General Manager of the Nestle Division at Ali Gohar and Company; Pakistan’s leading distribution house. Abrar has over 24 years of experience working with top brands in the Middle East and Pakistan including Nestle, Panasonic, National Foods and Dawlance. In a statement, while sharing his experience at IoBM, Abrar said, IoBM was a truly memorable experience and paved a strong foundation for where I am today.

He mentioned that we were amongst the first batches to go into the market and establish ourselves as a new business school; CBM in 1996. He was the business manager of the college Magazine, a member of the dramatics society, led college annual functions as a master of ceremony, acted in the college annual play, and was the vice-captain of the CBM football team. He also advised IoBM students and all fresh graduates to “work hard, stay humble and network”.

OBE Webinar Training for Faculty and Lab Engineers at IoBM

Karachi, April 13, 2022 (PPI-OT):Washington Accord is a multi-lateral agreement between bodies responsible for accreditation or recognition of tertiary-level engineering qualifications within their jurisdictions who have chosen to work collectively to assist the mobility of professional engineers. Outcome-Based Education (OBE) is a process that involves assessment and evaluation practices in education to reflect the attainment of expected learning and show mastery in the program area. BE in Electrical Engineering program offered by EE Department at IoBM is accredited by the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) under the new accreditation system of outcome-based education (OBE) which PEC adopted after becoming a signatory of the Washington Accord.

The OBE Webinar Training for Faculty and Lab Engineers at IoBM aims to focus on the objective and outcome-driven teaching, where every stated objective and outcome can be assessed and evaluated. It is centered around the needs of the students and the stakeholders. Graduates will be more “relevant” to the industry and other stakeholders (all-rounders); Continual Quality Improvement (CQI) is an inevitable consequence. The focus of this webinar is the use of Complex Engineering Problem (CEPs), Project-Based Learning. The trainers explain the assessment of Final Year Projects, Course Projects, and Assignments using CEPs and map them to UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
