ICC.tv partners with Cricket Australia to live stream Australia’s international summer of cricket

Dubai, September 20, 2021 (PPI-OT):The International Cricket Council (ICC) has partnered with Cricket Australia to broadcast the upcoming Australian summer of cricket into emerging cricket markets including Europe and Southeast Asia, starting with the highly anticipated rematch between India and Australia, finalists in last year’s ICC T20 Women’s World Cup.

ICC.tv, the streaming platform launched by the ICC in July, will live stream the multi-format series against India from tomorrow, 21 September – 12 October, followed by the entire 2021- 22 international calendar in Australia, comprising the men’s and women’s Ashes, as well as men’s white ball tours by New Zealand and Sri Lanka.

Both the India series and the women’s Ashes will be free for all users to stream to celebrate the new partnership, while the men’s content will be available on a pay-per-view basis. All content will be available in countries such as Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, China, Germany, Netherlands, among others.

Commenting on the partnership, ICC Head of Digital Finn Bradshaw said: “Through this unique partnership with Cricket Australia we will bring competitive and quality cricket to the cricket starved markets of Southeast Asia and Europe, as well as other regions that do not currently have a broadcast partner. This confirms our commitment to grow consumption of cricket and make it accessible to the world.”

Nikki Linney, Cricket Australia’s Head of Media Rights, said: “We’re incredibly excited to work with the ICC to continue to grow cricket, and bring our distinctive Aussie flavour of cricket to more fans around the world. There will be some excited Australian and English expats living or even holidaying in these countries who’ll now be able to easily access what promises to be a massive home summer with the men’s and women’s Ashes. We know that in countries like Germany, Hong Kong and Japan there is already a significant cricket fanbase and we are hoping to see this in neighbouring countries too.”

Saurabh Netravalkar reprimanded for breaching ICC Code of Conduct

Dubai, September 15, 2021 (PPI-OT):USA, left-arm fast bowler and captain, Saurabh Netravalkar has been reprimanded for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the first game of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League 2 supported by Dream 11 against Nepal in Muscat.

Netravalkar was found to have breached Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “Using language, actions or gestures which disparage, or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match. In addition to the reprimand, one demerit point has been added to Netravalkar’s disciplinary record.

The incident occurred in the 33rd over after the dismissal of batter Khushal Malla. Netravalkar aggressively shouted towards Malla after he dismissed him, and gave him a send-off, which could have provoked an aggressive reaction from Malla.

Graeme Labrooy of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction, which was ratified by the ICC Cricket Operations department as per the COVID-19 interim playing regulations. Netravalkar pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Rahul Asher, Vinod Babu and Ahmed Shah Pakteen. Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of a fine of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.

Root and Richardson voted ICC Players of the Month for August

Dubai, September 13, 2021 (PPI-OT): England Test captain Joe Root and Ireland’s Eimear Richardson have been voted as the winners of the ICC Players of the Month for August 2021. England captain Joe Root was voted the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for August 2021 for his consistent performances in the first three Tests against India which were part of the ICC World Test Championship series.

Root had scored more runs in the first three Tests than England’s next three highest run-scorers combined and had also been their highest individual scorer in each of their five innings. On the back of his stunning display in August, Root climbed to the top of MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Test Rankings for batters on 1 September. Placed fifth in the rankings before the start of the series, the England skipper had leapfrogged Virat Kohli, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith and Kane Williamson to the No.1 spot.

Commenting on Root’s performance in August, Pommie Mbangwa, a member of the ICC Voting Academy for the Player of the Month said: “Root made an amazing effort to score three consecutive test centuries in each of the first three tests in an engrossing and challenging series. That he has done it against a very strong Indian bowling attack adds to the feat, whilst getting back to the top of the batting rankings is the cherry on top.”

In women’s cricket, Ireland’s Eimear Richardson has had a sensational August as well, and was adjudged the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for August 2021. During the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier supported by Dream 11, Richardson won the Player of the Tournament award for her superb performance with the bat and the ball, starting off against Germany, she returned figures of 2/6, as the Irish cruised home to a comfortable 164-run victory.

She then followed it up with figures of 2/24 against Scotland. She continued her sizzling form with the ball in the remaining two matches against France and the Netherlands, returning with figures of 2/0 and 1/22 respectively, helping her team with back-to-back victories. With the bat, her most impactful knock came against Netherlands in their final match, when she scored a 49-ball 53, which helped her side reach a total of 111/9. Ireland eventually won the match by 24 runs, helping them clinch a second-place finish in the tournament. Richardson was among the highest run-scorers in the tournament, finishing fifth on the charts.

Reacting to her award Richardson said: “It was very exciting to be nominated for the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for August and to now be voted as the winner is just so amazing and humbling.”

“It was great to contribute to overall team performances at the European Qualifiers and hopefully we have done enough to make the next stage and compete on a global level again.”

“Behind every athlete, and any achievement, is a volume of people and support, so a big thanks to my teammates, head coach Ed Joyce and wider management. Also, to my workplace Northern Districts, which continues to endlessly support and enable me to play at the top level. “
