SMIU Hosts 2nd Global Research Congress to Address Global Challenges

Karachi, The 2nd Global Research Congress, organized by Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU), commenced on February 28, 2024, bringing together educational experts and international dignitaries to discuss critical global challenges such as environmental change, poverty, social issues, and terrorism. The congress aims to foster collective solutions through scholarly research.

According to Sindh Madressatul Islam University, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, lauded SMIU’s Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai and his team for initiating the congress. Addressing the inaugural session virtually, Dr. Ahmed emphasized the importance of such gatherings in providing a platform for learners, researchers, faculty, and students from various regions and countries to exchange experiences, knowledge, and research work. He highlighted the participation of Consul Generals from China and Turkiye, underscoring the significance of international collaboration in addressing humanity’s challenges.

Dr. Sahrai welcomed participants from around the world, including Russia, the USA, the UK, Vietnam, and the UAE. He reflected on the congress’s genesis, crediting the dynamic faculty of SMIU with the idea and successful execution of the first congress the previous year. With six international conferences organized as part of the congress, Dr. Sahrai expressed confidence that the findings would be shared with stakeholders both nationally and internationally, contributing to global knowledge and solutions.

The Consul General of China in Karachi, Mr. Yang Yundong, highlighted the deep-rooted friendship between Pakistan and China, noting the expansion of educational and cultural exchanges between the two nations, including the teaching of the Urdu language in Chinese universities. He also mentioned China’s cooperation with Pakistan in addressing global warming and the development of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Mr. Cemal Sangu, the Consul General of Turkiye in Karachi, reminisced about the historic ties between Turkiye and Sindh Madressatul Islam, mentioning plans to construct a mausoleum for the university’s founder in Hyderabad, Sindh. He emphasized the congress’s role in promoting research in Pakistan and beyond.

Mr. Noor Ahmed Samo, Secretary of Universities and Boards, Government of Sindh, praised the unique theme of the congress and its potential to provide actionable recommendations for the Sindh government’s implementation. He highlighted Sindh’s commitment to higher education, contrasting the provincial government’s financial allocations for universities with those of other provinces.

The congress was inaugurated by a distinguished panel, including Consul Generals of China and Turkiye, Vice Chancellor Dr. Sahrai, and international scholars. The ceremony underscored SMIU’s commitment to advancing research and fostering international cooperation to address pressing global issues.
