Karachi: The Department of Admissions and Examinations at Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) organized an orientation session for the Spring 2026 semester on Tuesday at the Shahnawaz Auditorium. The event aimed to welcome newly admitted students and familiarize them with the university's academic framework, institutional history, policies, and student support systems.
According to Sindh Madressatul Islam University, the Vice Chancellor addressed the students, highlighting the dual nature of their admission as both a privilege and a responsibility, supported by the state covering nearly 75% of educational costs. He noted the small percentage of Pakistan's youth who achieve tertiary education and urged students to honor this public investment through discipline, academic seriousness, and ethical conduct. Drawing on personal experiences, he illustrated the contrast between past and present student life, emphasizing the advantages of today's digital tools and structured academic systems.
The Vice Chancellor reminded students of their place in the historic institution, founded in 1885 by Hassanally Effendi, and discussed the evolving role of universities in research, innovation, and entrepreneurship. He encouraged students to engage in honest self-assessment and commit to their academic paths, shaping them into productive graduates who contribute positively to society.
During the orientation, various sessions led by Deans and Chairpersons of academic departments, such as Dr. Jamshed Halepoto and Dr. Abdul Hafeez Khan, provided insights into SMIU's vision, academic programs, discipline, and facilities. Emphasis was placed on academic excellence, ethical leadership, and research-driven learning aligned with national development goals. The semester system and academic calendar were outlined, with classes starting on February 9, 2026, and significant academic dates provided.
Students were introduced to SMIU's six faculties, offering multidisciplinary programs fully aligned with Higher Education Commission standards. The role of the Accreditation and Quality Enhancement Cell was highlighted, focusing on continuous academic improvement through various surveys. Students received guidance on digital platforms for academic and administrative management.
